  1. Well, the article references 2002 and 2003. I believe that is the first year or so of the WPT. Who won tournies and was on the cover Cardplayer and other such magazines? We all know Sam Grizzle is always broke. Matusow is very public about his problems. Paul Darden? Kenna James? Amir Vahedi? Phil Laak? Toto Leonidas...Paul Magriel...Hon Lee...Mark Seif (he's got a TV gig now instead of playing in the PPT)...and finally Layne Flack. I could keep going, but go to the WPT archives and check for yourself.
  2. Smells like top pair and he is trying to see where he is at or he just picked up a straight/flush draw and he is trying to control the betting. He is betting $150 basically putting you all-in for your $325. He is committed to the river so the only question is just call and see what the river brings or push in now? I push, but, hey, it's not my money...maybe that's why I am broke...
  3. If everyone believes you are LAG from the comment made when you first sat in, you should bet out. In early position, you will more than likely get at least one caller. Even better, they might just re-raise and then you can push all-in and they are committed to see it through. That is the benefit of a LAG image. Many times, your lead out is not respected so they go over the top with weaker hands like top pair figuring you for a straight draw. Earlier comments were correct, if a scare card comes out with a LAG image, the action will stop. No need to slowplay if that is your true image.
  4. I vote for call. The 60k bet on flop could have been designed to create the proper odds for a flush draw.
  5. Enough said. Well, maybe not. If you always have 7 players seeing a flop and 4 going to the river, you will not beat the game. It is a complete crapshoot. Nevermind. My name is... and I used to believe this. This type of game does require tighter pre-flop requirements. However, your post flop decisions will be most critical. Tighten up on the kinds of flops you go forward with. ie two pair, trips , huge draws, you need to have lots of patience and understanding. Good luck
  6. You should have seen the flop. You let your run of success at that table cloud your judgement. Your judgment was sound, but it should have pushed you in the other direction. I can't add more than suited or the guy above me other than don't be afraid of the monsters under the bed.
  7. I may get flamed for this, but if you know they go after flush draws, why not lead into them? They may just call. When that club comes on the turn, you lose less. With your play, you invited him to commit himself to the pot. This isn't a bad play, but there is no way for you to get away from your hand. Two pair on the flop against maniacs is not as strong as against a solid player. Odds don't matter to them, so they are essentially getting infinite odds because they just don't care. If a club does not come on the turn, then push in because the odds are much more in your favor. Along with some
  8. You should be in about 30-35% of the hands you are dealt to create enough of an impression that you are a good player. If you fold too much preflop, you will not get any action post flop if you bet.
  9. Tournament play is much different than cash game play. Cash game play is not about survival. It is about pushing your advantages, no matter how small they might be. In a tourney, I will not call an all-in early if I know it is just a coin flip. In a cash game, I will call that bet. I have found that if I am going to play in a tournament, I cannot be playing in a cash game at the same time. My tourney performance suffers, because of these differences.I mostly play 6 max 2-4nl tables as I can play more hands and be more aggressive. Also, the 6max tables tend to be looser because you must push re
  10. I have found the most success at Bodog and FCP. I do not play limit. I find it boring. I have had more consistent results at 2-4 vs .50-1 or 1-2. The $50 Long Kiss Goodnight tourney is great. FCP does have some better players. However, there are still poorer players at every level. Watch when Daniel plays 50-100NL and you will see all kinds of odd play.
  11. This can only be appreciated by married men, but still funny.Wife 1.0Dear Tech Support: Last year I upgraded from Girlfriend 7.0 to Wife 1.0. I soon noticed the new program contained the module Baby 2.0 which unexpectedly began child processing. This module requires significant space and valuable resources. In addition, Wife 1.0 installed itself into all other programs and now monitors all system activity. Applications such as Poker Night 10.3, Football 5.0, Hunting and Fishing 7.5, and Racing 3.6 no longer run independently. When attempting to run the programs outside of Wife 1.0, the system c
  12. You did nothing wrong. He had a great draw post flop and you didn't have a deep enough stack to push him out.
  13. Reading is a little different when I am not at the table. However, I am thinking AQ, KQ10 KK or AA. I push about $50 trying to induce a raise for the rest.
