When DFW died, Chorozzo made a disrespectful comment, and I slowly willed him into the grave over it. I didn't love Prince less than I loved DFW.

He's colder than that, now.

God damn it, Fritz, you could have gone with "happy trails, bubby" there, and you ****ed it up.

Yes, it's true: Adam West and Frank Gorshin got kicked out of a Hollywood orgy for insisting on staying in-character as Batman and Riddler.

Reports are starting to trickle down that my favorite singer of all time, Tom Petty, is close to death. I will not be able to handle life this week.

Radio stations were playing nothing but Tragically Hip yesterday and Prime Minister Trudeau was in tears talking about him since they were close friends. I don't think there is a parallel in other countries that that can make those outside Canada understand our connection to Downie and The Hip.

From the New York Times

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/10/18/arts/music/gord-downie-tragically-hip-dead-final-album.html

The place of honor that Mr. Downie occupies in Canada’s national imagination has no parallel in the United States. Imagine Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan and Michael Stipe combined into one sensitive, oblique poet-philosopher, and you’re getting close. The Tragically Hip’s music “helped us understand each other, while capturing the complexity and vastness of the place we call home,” Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said in a statement on Wednesday. “Our identity and culture are richer because of his music, which was always raw and honest — like Gord himself.”

I've never heard of them, and anyone who gets big in the US automatically is known worldwide, so I would tend to agree with you that there probably isn't a parallel, unless you go to state level acts like Iowa and The Nadas, or something similar.

yes some regional act in the midwest is like a singer who has flags at half staff at government buildings, the Prime Minister in tears, tributes to him at every sporting event in the country and one of our national TV networks is showing a documentary from their last tour in prime time and it will probably be the highest rated show in the country.

You seemed to be moved by the death of Tom Petty, magnify that across the entire country and ramp up the intensity of those feelings by a lot and you still will be short to how Canada feels about Gord Downie.

This was during tonight's Raptor's game.
