zimmer4141 0
I have been playing poker for over a year now, and I notice that I have improved many areas of my life because of it. On the golf course, I used to get extremely angry, and curse constantly after every bad shot. I notice this year that I rarely get mad and am much calmer out there. I also have noticed that during big tests in school I am less nervous before and during the test. Just wondering if anyone else has seen poker have a positive impact on their life. westhead12 0
I have the same feeling on the golf course. When I hit a bad shot, its just like blowing off a bad beat.
joeythep 0
I've gotta say, it's honestly helped me control my emotions. And thanks to Mike Caro, it's alot easier to tell whether my kids are "bluffing" or not, when they blame each other for messes and stuff...
Scott31 0
I have the same feeling on the golf course. When I hit a bad shot, its just like blowing off a bad beat.Absolutely. I played today and I just shrug off the bad shots and move on. Several years ago, when I played on my high school team, my blowups were notorious. For example, I'd go par, birdie, bogey, bogey, and by then I'm pissed off and one time I put up a 12 on a par 4! I tried the same cut shot against the wind from a bad lie. Talk about a round killer! Now I just take my poker skills of calmness out there and although I'm still not great, the 12s haven't come back.

jeff_536 3
Patience. I've been playing limit for about four months online....fold, fold, fold...wait for a good starting hand.

DCWildcat 0
Patience. I've been playing limit for about four months online....fold, fold, fold...wait for a good starting hand.That.And I think of way too many things in terms of numbers now. Last week at work after I clocked out I tried to figure out the implied odds of going back to the shop to get a drink & perhaps hit on a cute girl there. The scary thing is that there's no (sw) at the end of this post. custom36 4
Patience and temper. My temper still isn't great, but it's a lot better than it was. I'm more patient in situations like getting stuck in traffic or something like that than I was before I started playing.

(Other than money)it has helped me with things like mental focus and patience, but i think it has had the inverse effect for me on the golf course or tennis court. i am so used to holding everything in when i am playing poker, that when i am in another medium like golf or tennis, i explode like mcenroe. it doesnt make my golf game any worse though, but now i am more apt to pull a happy gilmore and toss my putter
wrto4556 0
I manage my money well, now.My math skills are better.I analyze situations better.Patience.I control my emotions somewhat better. There are drawbacks, though.I eat bad.I sleep bad.Everything folds instead of going out of business. (Other than money)I find that you start to notice when people are lying to you more. I also find that I am dealing with really annoying situations better because getting outdrawn viciously for money is way worse than say bad traffic or noisy kids on the train......plus you get to learn important new words and phrases like "jopke" and donkeys always draw! Dubey 1,035
no, it just dominates my thinking, to the point of getting ridiculous..For instance, I am playing golf yesterday. I am in the trees, in a bad lie, but I have a clear path to chip out to the fairway. I look up and see a small spot I could possibly hit it through to go at the green. I think about it for a second and think to myself (in these words) "nah, thats going all in with 2-7 offsuit, not smart Dave".I am such a loser

DCWildcat 0
I work at a shop, where we sell salted and unsalted pretzels. Today a customer came up to me and asked for a pretzel. I asked her if she wanted "salted" or "offsalt."She asked me which was better, and I responded "In the long run, the salted ones have more value."I thought about saying: "If you can't decide, be inclined to eat the salted ones, and fold the offsalt ones."
