opinions, please

Recommended Posts

I have a couple of questions I would like some opinions on. First, I was playing a SnG this weekend, and when it got down to three people (6 player, 2 make money), 1 player had a huge chip advantage, the other player and myself were about even. I was in seat 1, chip leader in seat 2, other player in seat 3. Player in seat 3 "sits out", don't know if connection problems or intentional, but then chip leader continues to fold their SB to player sitting out. Also raised from BB every hand against my SB (when I completed or raised). Pretty much guaranteed that player sitting out would take 2nd and get into the money. Seemed to me to be suspicious play. What do you guys think? 2nd question: Heads up, other player loses connection. Do you raise and take blinds as fast as you can? I have no objection to winning money, and connection problems are a risk in this stuff, but I do play more for the challenge of the game than to make real money. I did blind him out as quickly as possible and won the tourney, but just wondered how you guys approach these things.

1. Sounds very fishy. Probably collusion.
There are easier ways to collude than this. Why would he need to be sitting out for the big stack to fold chips to him?

Why does he need to waste his time sitting there clicking fold when he can just sit out and go watch TV?

There are easier ways. It just seemed odd that a huge chip leader would fold the SB to the BB when the BB was sitting out, not playing. Kind of like why would you not take the chips from someone sitting out? The chip leader had an easy path to take all the chips from the "sitting out" player but didn't. Just seemed odd, was looking for opinions. Maybe the chip leader was multi-tabling and didn't realize other player was sitting out? I really don't know.

Uh... the real problem is that you are down to three people, and you are not raising on the button, when the BB is auto-folding everything. I don't care whether he is sitting there or not, if the BB is auto folding everything, I'm raising every marginal hand in the book to try and build my stack, ESPECIALLY on the bubble like this. Are you playing for the money, or the win?Zach

good point. I either raised marginal hands or better, and folded junk. My issue was every time I folded junk, SB folded to BB who was sitting out. Every time I raised, chip leader re-raised. That's why I busted out quickly. I have no problem with those plays. Just seemed curious that someone in SB would fold every time to BB who wasn't playing when I folded. That's all. Just seemed odd to me. Chip leader played their stack very well against me (re-raised my raises knowing it wouldn't really hurt their stack) as I would have in that position, however, I would NEVER fold in SB to BB when BB isn't playing. Thats all. Maybe just coincidence? I don't know, just wanted other opinions. Thanks to everyone for their input.

1. I have done this a couple of times, multi-tabling, and not noticing that there is a person sitting out. But when ever this has happened, someone has soon brought it to my attention, by writing it in the chat box, and i apologised, and never did it again. Did you ask this guy why wasn't he raising to take the sitters money??Because if you didnt, then i think that it could just be a coincidence, it does sound fishy, but why would he sit, when he could have a more active roll in taking you out, and it just seems a little too obvious of a move, so i don't think they would, unless they wanted to lose their accounts.2. Take his money as quickly as possible, when ever a situation comes up like this, i try to reverse the situation, what would he do if i had lost my connection? I can almost guarantee, he would be blinding you out, just as fast as you did to him. I want the win above anything, and i really dont care how it happens...lol, as long as i get it.

I did type in chat to the chip leader asking why he/she would fold and got no response. I also searched the site and they were not multi-tabling at the time I searched. Anyway, the point of my question was simply to get opinions. I found the play suspicious, but not obvious collusion. As to the second question, I did take his chips as fast as I could, just wanted to see what other opinions were.
