I just found this 12 Minute Video about the Insane War On Drugs. I'm tempted to give them money to get their full DVD.Interesting facts from this video:In the early 1900s, before any drug laws, 1.3% of the population was addicted to drugs.Around 1970, before the drug war in its current form began, 1.3% of the population was addicted to drugs.Thirty-some years and billions of dollars and millions of ruined lives later, 1.3% of the population is addicted to drugs. The only distracting thing in the video was I wanted to get some scissors for that one speaker's ponytail... but overall this message is too strong to be ignored. It's time to stop the insanity.

But, but, but...if we didn't lock up all the drug dealers and users, what could we possibly find to spend all that prison money on?swDrug prevention, treatment, and punishment are all huge industries in this country. I agree that the war on drugs isn't working and logically *can't* work, but it's not going anywhere.

if there was no restrictions an enforcement on drug policies, organized crime would skyrocket no? i talking about importers/experters, someone has to keep that dirty money out of their hands.

Very very nice website... thank you for bringing it to our attention. I've spread it myself to friends of mine and people I talk to.I would suggest everyone do the same.

As you know, I'm not a fan of laws. I'm against gun control, preemptive drunk driving laws, even taxes. So this will surprise a lot of you: I'm all for two things: the war on drugs and sodomy laws. The reason being, my life is really boring. Really, really boring. So boring that I need a hobby. That hobby: controlling when, how and if other people get off. Sinners! Bible Cop is coming...

after watching the video I now realize what a huge difference there is between US and Canadian drug laws. I had no idea they went around aresting people and putting them in jail for 7 years for holding a spliff, WTF. Cops are easy going about petty drugs over here. Police ressources are focused on the big distributors. My dad was in the RCMP unit that worked against the bikers in montreal. In 2001 there was a huge clean up and the bikers are gone for the most part, now however there is a huge uprising of small street gangs, mostly ethinically divided causing unrest (random stabbings and attacks). My dad was working in the information deartment that would gather intelligence on drug activites. Idealy they would bust a big distributor, threaten him to lose his house, car, family, job and jail time and get him to become an informer. They went for the biggest guys and dismantled a huge faction of organized crime. This huge clean up was nescessary beacause in the 90s The Hells Angels and Rock machine were at war, I think they killed 1000 of each other and a dozen innocents.Drugs and crime are present just the same. Drugs won't go away, if stopping big time distributors doesn't stop drugs, arresting small time users isn't going to change **** either. Even if you do get procecuted for possesion of drugs you most likely won't do any jail time, if you get intent to distribute it will be worse but I'm sure its nothing like the US. I'm can't even get into any serious trouble fir have an .oz of weed, no record or anything. Marijuana should be legalized, and migth be up here, but I don't know if drug legalizations is the solution to the drug war in the US. Laxer laws is a must , but is total legalization and education better. This seems to be the same extreme kind of solution as "give guns to everyone " to reduce gun crimes. Would it work? maybe yes in both cases, but if neither worked you'd become a country full of trigger happy crack heads.

It varies state to state. I enjoy ambiguous laws, enforced at the whim of a couple people. It makes justice -- and life -- into a whacky, fun grab-bag. It's best not to take a law off the books, once you've decided that it's unjust or unenforcable. That way, you have it there in case you need to **** somebody over, nice and legal.

Should we stop trying to fight aids, too? I mean, everybody who gets it besides Magic Johnson dies. 100% of the time. You can't count Tommy Morrison because he didn't really have it. That's gotta suck. Couldn't stage shitty fights anymore becaue he had quasi-aids. We missed out on the last White hope. There is a conspiracy in this somewhere, I just haven't figured it out yet. I wonder if quasi-aids is a huge buisness along with good old regular aids? The point is, sometimes you have to fight even when you are losing, because it is the right thing to do.

How is it right to ruin lives, spend billions of dollars, and punish non-violent consensual acts all so that a few moralists can feel the right to control what innocent people do in the privacy of their home? Oh, and factor in the fact that the Insane War on Drugs does not cause ANY DECREASE WHATSOEVER in the levels of drug use in society.EDIT: Oh, and notice that the "war on AIDS" doesn't include arresting people who get AIDS and throwing them in jail on felony charges. It's a ridiculous comparison.

It's an entirely appropriate comparison, because it is just one more thing we cannot beat. You will not stop drug use or aids. Would you agree with that? That doesn't mean we do not try. Innocent people. There is a laugh. Buying drugs keeps who in buisness? Drug dealers. Who do drug dealers sell to? Anyone and everyone. They don't care if you're 7 or 70. How about we try this? Let's stop living lifestyles that make us want to constantly escape, then we won't "need" drugs. What a revolutionary idea. Druggies could have just as much of a good time reading a good book if they weren't so ****ed up to begin with. That's the real issue- fixing what is wrong with people that drives them to drugs in the first place. Don't like your job? Get a new one. Got a BJ from someone you shouldn't have? Well, don't do that. Pushing yourself to much, can't find time to relax? Slow down and take a breath, jackhole. Not enough money? How is buying drugs going to help? I could go on and on. Drugs are not neccesary. You have to produce a better argument than "But I want to do drugs." That's pretty much all I ever hear from people that are pro drugs, that they should be free to do whatever they want. Truth is you are free to do as you like, you will just pay consequences. So, if you really believe your stance, do what you want and take your punishment like a man if you get caught. I speed everyday, all of the time. If I get caught, I accept it. I deserve it. I am not going to whine about it, because if there were not these laws in place my family would not be as safe. Same goes for this issue. My daughter will never do drugs, because she will know exactly why they are bad, and any help the government wants to give me in that fight will be welcomed.

Anyone that agrees with that is functionally retarded. The spread of AIDS is way down in this country, and a cure will come eventually (you can already live a long time with it). There is no 'cure' for wanting to do drugs...do you really not understand the difference between the two?Anyways, you're way off the main point of the original post in this thread. He's saying that, based on the statistics, drug use has not been affected by the billions spent on the 'war on drugs'. 1.3%=1.3%...basic math. It has nothing to do with the fact that you think drugs are wrong.

You're incredibly naiive and uninformed about this whole issue. The druggies (I feel like my father saying that) you're referring to are not the ones clogging up the legal system. There is a big difference between someone smoking some weed to relax and a heroin junkie...you can't pass judgement on one and have it apply to the other...they are completely separate issues.
Same goes for this issue. My daughter will never do drugs, because she will know exactly why they are bad, and any help the government wants to give me in that fight will be welcomed.
Chances are she will do drugs...you can only hope she doesn't do anything too hardcore/addictive. That poor girl.

No. My daughter will not do drugs. That is my goal, or one of them. To not have that goal would be stupid. What else should I do, take the opposite attitude?"Oh, well, she is going to do drugs. Nothing I can do about it." This is how the world works, they make try and make you think that you can't win, and when it is obviously clear you cannot win, well then don't try. No wonder you guys can't put down the bong. Life is an insurmountable hill of reasons why you cannot, that has got to suck. Not one person has put forth an argumnet for why drug use is so important. Just the usual negative liberal thing that says nothing about the issue but everything about the attitude of the people that care about the issue. Come on, give me a reason why it is so important. Let's here it.

Sure. Get rid of alcohol as well. I wouldn't mind. Actually, I would be for banning certain types. A beer, a glass of wine, could enhance a dinner. There is no reason to being doing shots of Jagr at Red Lobster. People are morons with alcohol as well. Almost everyone I know outside of Church has had a DUI, and the ones that don't have just been lucky. There is absolutely no reason to drink as much as they do, and if it was taken away what would be the problem? Nothing, unless something was wrong within them that made it to where they had to do this activity to have fun, loosen up, whatever. Once again, the issue isn't the item- the item in and of itself isn't even desireable unless you have some reason driving you to it. Of course, no one will talk about that, because that will make them look deeper than,"Hey, stop telling me what to do, man."

ok that sounds better. the "goal" part. I was just saying that proclaiming definitively that your daughter will never do drugs is extremely optimistic and probably quite a bit naive. but good luck with all that. a little advice: don't think a private school makes for less exposure to drugs. trust me on that one.

I have 2 addicted brothers, a sister who has tried everything and has sezuires because of it, a dad that has never been anything but a junkie, and I have never even tried weed. That poor girl? Man, I try not to get to personal but **** you. You don't know me like that and never will. I sacrifice my life for that girl every day of the week, and do the absolute best I can by her, without fail, and when I don't, I am the first to admit and make it up to her. That little girl is as loved as a little girl can be.

Exactly. The Insane War on Drugs has led to a condition in which the business of mood alteration is placed into the hands of dangerous criminals who will sell a dangerous product to anyone with a dollar.Compare that to our other primary mood alteration product, liquor, which is relatively safe to use in moderation, safe to purchase, and only sold to responsible adults.Yeah, this Insane War on Drugs is a GREAT idea. Thanks for making my point.

The philosophy of personal freedom and choice is what's important.Your exact position was tried during prohibition when we outlawed alcohol to save the daughters/nuns/children/baby Jesus."WHY IS ALCOHOL SO IMPORTANT! TELL ME THAT? WE SHOULD BAN IT!"We as a society woke up and came to realize that personal choice is what's important. If you want to use drugs, OK. That's a personal choice. No, you can't get hopped up on PCP and shoot up a police station, but our society believes that people should be allowed to make decisions for their own lives without pandering to the statistical anomaly that might abuse their freedom for the wrong reasons.Yes, you can make the choice to own a firearm. No, this does not mean that you can walk into a school and start shooting kids; in spite of the fact that such lunatics pop up from time to time, the right for people to make that decision for themselves is what our society deems most important.Yes, you can purchase alcohol. No, you cannot get drunk and drive around. In spite of the fact that too many people do just that and it can result in innocent deaths, we as a society have concluded that the freedom to make the personal choice to drink is more important than anything else that might dictate the issue. In short, we don't live in a society where we're only permitted to own what's "needed" while everything else can be banned at the whim of whoever "feels" as much. We live in a society where we are supposed to be able to make these choices for ourselves. If someone wants to relax with a beer, we as a society should say that's OK.The only reason we as a society say relaxing with a spliff is "bad" is because when the repeals on the prohibition of recreational inebriants were lifted in the 30's, the only people who smoked pot were 'dirty Negroes and Mexicans' while alcohol was enjoyed by everyone- namely, the people making the laws. There is absolutely no moral imperative that says pot is somehow "worse" than gin. There is no scientific reasoning that suggests that one is "worse" than the other. What there is is troupes of associative-thinking, mindless retards who think drugs are bad because they're illegal and they're illegal because they're bad. Since our society doesn't require IQ tests in order to vote, these people actually wield power. (sad)

Do you really think making it legal would stop them form selling to young people? No. It would actually make it that much more critical to there buisness model. Think, man. Yeah, good job making a case for why drug use is important and neccesary. Bravo.

This part of your response is an excellent demonstration of the openess of your mind. No part of LEAP's agenda involves "I want to do drugs". They very explicitly state that they think taking drugs is a terrible idea, and nobody should do it. But saying "drugs are a bad idea, so let's add a terrible idea on top of it" is a ridiculous solution.I don't take drugs. If drugs become legal, I still will not take drugs. I will discourage my family from relying on drugs. I tried pot in college, thought it was fun, never did it again. Notice though, I didn't turn into a deadbeat. I didn't kill or rape anyone. I am a responsible, successful adult. The Insane War on Drugs, if it were effective, would have my life ruined over a college experiment. How does that make sense? What business is it of ANYONE if I chemically altered the way I felt for one night?
