  1. Too busy dressing down McChrystal...but no, giving a talk at the Bachelier Finance Society conference. Hopefully the anarchists protesting the G20 steer clear of it. Going to check out Niagara Wednesday night I think. If anyone's going to be there, send me a PM
  2. Thanks for all the replies - I'll definitely call ahead. Maybe I'll check out Windsor on the way back to Chicago.
  3. Heading up to Toronto for a conference this week and was interested in playing some cards at some point. From what I can tell, driving down to the Niagara area is my best bet - is this the case? Perhaps you can help me out here. I would prefer going to the place that offers all three of the below, but I am alright with driving down for a 3-5 hour cash session then back to Toronto. spreads 1/2 NL or PLO has a nightly tourney with $100 buy-in or less offers a room discount for poker players
  4. Do you keep detailed stats on your STT results? Any idea how often you place 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc when playing STTs at the $7.50 and above level? If I knew that along with the award structures for the various steps, I could try to build a probability model for you to give you an idea the likelihood of your success.

  6. It has been some time since the days of Smash, but I never recall any of his 'serious' strat posts being obviously in wrong. There were a ton of the "fold preflop" variety, but his more detailed posts always made me think at least. I know there were a sizable group of detractors - KDawg being one of them - but I always felt like Smash, whether by rhetoric or logic, gave his arguments some weight.
  7. From what I heard, 1-2 PLO only has enough interest on weekends, but I didn't see it when I was there on a friday so I suppose it probably rarely happens.
  8. I am curious as to your thought process on this hand. Is villain a fishy calling station? If he's not, it would seem you are only getting value from a narrow range, namely Jack combos.
  9. I suppose you are referring to his post on the micro-NL algorithmic playing style of just shoving your huge hands. I never got the impression that he claimed it was optimal or the best in terms of learning - the whole point was that it was a winning style, and reinforced Smash's opinion that LHE was a more difficult game to beat.He did have some excellent strat posts though - the first post I ever made in strategy was about playing a mid pair in late position and it turned into an 8 page discussion mainly due to Smash on raising versus limping in late position. Whether or not you agreed with h
  10. Smasharoo - not only hilarious, but also a great strat poster.JC - the two $10 rebuy final table threads are all time great railsRDog - sorry that you left - your posts were always worth reading.NoSup4u - there would be no challenge thread if not for him.
  11. Thank you for the thoughts - I was hoping for some higher level discussion even though it's $10NL and most villains are just mashing buttons The primary reason I decided to lead out was because the board was so draw heavy and I thought a donk would look like I was trying to draw cheap, or betting something like A7. Perhaps I was giving the villain too much credit as I was hoping this would occur to him as well. In any case, I'll try to mix this up with the line you detailed.
  12. I am one of the infamous New Challenge lurkers, having read it from its inception. I have always been focused on PLO, but I am interested in playing more live poker, thus I am starting off at the bottom in NL 6max to develop my game. Hopefully I can contribute to keeping this thread alive as it's certainly the best poker thread I've ever read. In any event, to start things off, here's a 550BB pot I played tonight - any comments on the flop play?PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $0.10 BB (6 handed) - Poker-Stars Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.comCO ($27.55)Button ($3.65)Hero (SB) ($32.40)BB ($16.
  13. After having dinner with a friend and 10 of his closest christian buddies, I felt it necessary to get the stink of degeneracy back on me and headed out to the Shoe a few fridays ago. I played in the 5-10 Omaha 8/b Kill game where nearly everyone at the table doubled my age. The game played like it was 10-20 since almost every hand qualified as a kill pot. Unfortunately, because of the advanced age of everybody at the table, the game broke shortly after midnight and I ended up basically even. That being said, the Shoe has a top notch poker room, and I look forward to going back there to play som
  14. TID Ben, then stake me in the 5/10 Omaha H/L game at Resorts!
  15. thank you much. thank you for the detailed post. I'll definitely check the Saturday O8 game out. Also, if there is ever interest in a home game in the future, I may be able to host.
