  1. Let's not forget that Zetterberg and Datsyuk aren't even under contract yet! Dats is asking for $5 mil.+ right now, and in the capped NHL he's not going to get that much in Detroit. I think Zetterberg is only asking 2.5, but his name isn't on a dotted line for us there yet either. Datsyuk supposedly has a "substantial" offer from his team in Russia. The Wings are currently at about $26.5 mil. with several RFA's yet to sign. And let's not forget that the cap is tied to revenues and projections say it could drop by $3 mil. for next season, so spending to the limit now may be a tricky gambit
  2. I haven't made up my mind on the no red line rule yet ( I want to see it in action), but I'll play devil's advocate on your three points.1. The new rules state that icing is to be waved off if it is deemed the result of a "missed pass".2. If the turnover happens while one or two forwards are trying to cherry-pick or streak up ice, then it'll be a scoring opportunity the other way. Either way, it should up the excitement value.3. We'll see how this plays out. I think that shrinking of the neutral zone overall was meant to hinder the "trap" defence and make it an unattractive area of the ice t
  3. Oh you're just bitter because the Wings have owned you guys in the playoffs. JK. BTW, got to see Barrett Jackman and Ryan Johnson play here in Kalamazoo when they were on the UHL squad in Missouri last year. Jackman impressed the heck outta me. Between the two of them, they had 7 points agains us in the first period (4-0; Jackman 2g, 2a; Johnson 2g, 1a)! We came back to tie the game and win in a shootout (5-4). Jackman could easily step up to lead your D now that Pronger's gone north of the border.
  4. So, who's in net for you guys this year? The team has some pretty high expectations now.
  5. He's among the best at goal scoring, but get ready to watch a lot of the new "Philly Phlop".
  6. Red Wings fan here (was a fan before the recent cups too). Unlike most of the--vocal--Wings fans, I'm glad for the salary cap. Instead of the overpowered Red Wings playing a few clash-of-the-titans games against the other mega-payroll teams (Philly, Dallas, Colorado, etc.), now more than ever about every game will be a nail-biter. For years now, if we lost to Pittsburgh, Edmonton or the like it was because the Wings "played a bad game". No more push-over teams. And even against teams that don't seem to be doing much for their rosters yet (Carolina, etc.) will stand a better chance because
  7. Except if ANY player for the team in the defensive zone flips the puck into the stands now, it is a two minute delay of game penalty. You get your line change, but only get to send four guys back out. The only real recourse for a whistle will be to slide it to the goalie, like you said. But, that is a really risky proposition, if you ask me.
  8. True. Cut me some slack, it was almost two years ago now! Allow me to correct: The Kariya/Selanne thing blew up because Kariya spent most of the season injured, but Selanne... geez... he just didn't play well. He had 32 points all season (half of his production from the previous year while only playing four less games) and no goals at all in the playoffs. No way for anyone to know that was going to happen to him. That was his first full NHL season where he had less than 25 goals and 50 points. I mean, looking at his stats, his rookie year with Winnipeg in '92-'93 he had 132 poin
  9. I've always been a big fan of Drury. Even though I'm a Red Wings fan and he was second only to Adam Deadmarsh at killing us in the playoffs, he has always been a favourite player of mine. For all the magic that Pierre Lacroix has worked, his naked desperation for a defenceman really landed him on the short end of that deal. It just seems that over the last season the deals that he made both baffled me and made me happy, which can't be good for the Avs. By the end of last season he had traded away most of his middle-of-the-road scorers for less skilled tough guys. (I feel for Steve Moore a
  10. Of the big market teams, I think the Red Wings have more youthful talent than the Avs. The Avs really mortgaged their future in the moves they made "last" season. They have quite a few good 'tweeners that are very skilled, but with lower price-tags than the vets, but they aren't really what I'd call "young" anymore. Of course, the two main youngsters for the Red Wings that I was thinking of (Zetterberg and Datsyuk) both appear to be holding out for more money. So, that could really hurt the Wings. I follow the Western Conference much more than the East (Detroit doesn't play Toronto once n
  11. Here is the little "Hockey 101" section of the website for our UHL team. It's got the basics and little South Park-type people. What more can you want?http://www.wingsstadium.com/hockey101.htm
  12. I think that the most unnoticed rule change is one of the best. Not letting teams who ice the puck get a line change is definitely going to up scoring. Right now, 90% of icing is of the, "we're tired and can't clear the zone" type. Well, that's not going to be an option anymore. You ice it and you don't get off the ice to get a rest AND then other team gets to put a fresh line on if they want. It'll make you think twice. This rule was the basis for two of the other changes. The letting a linesman waive off icing if it was determined to be a "missed pass" and the delay of game penalty for
