If you are paying $20 for a haircut, I imagine people assume you did it yourself anyway.

and after 3 days, he is risen!

Pocket change cost me my first and only black girlfriend.   It was in the middle of a roaring poker boom and I was flush in ways most men don't even bother dreaming of. Money, it was like dirt to me

I went to the casino last night. Left up105 bucks cause set over set got me to Iger at the end of the night. But the real story is how annoying the average 1/2 player is. Jesus I can barely stand to be at the table with them. Makes me not want to go.

Welcome, friend. Glad you could make it.

What do you got for a setup?

I did ribs once and they were excellent.

I bought the girlfriend one by joule from Amazon for $200. I use a plastic food prep container with a totally unnecessary special lid, and put the food in ziplock bags. You can get special vacuum bags, also pretty unnecessary, at least for steak.

I gave this gift to her several months ago, and she basically just didn’t want to use it for whatever reason. Obviously now she’s all about it.

Nice. I got one of the anova models last year on prime day. I use a little cooler that I cut a hole in the lid to fit the machine with the assumption it will be better for heat retention and evaporation. I also bought one of the wholly unnecessary vacuum sealers but it was a refurb on meh for like $30 and I use it a bit for jerky and partioning bulk foods, too.

I could see the necessity of the lid if you were doing this all day. Doesn’t really matter for my 1hr cooking.

Talked to my boss, management did a 180 on the review cycle. Apparently I’m getting a raise of some sort next week. Boss tried hard to figure out where I got the info. I laughed and said I can’t see what good would come of it, but that I would make sure everyone is on the same page.

Congrats buddy.

Let me be clear about the raise situation. They were absolutely going to make everyone go 18 months between raises, and something convinced them otherwise. My boss deliberately tried to mislead me, and then tried to scold me into revealing who told me what management was doing. It was disappointing.

Nice. Although that’s kinda fvcked up from your boss. That’s such a hostile work environment. I don’t know if I could put up with that for long although getting paid pretty well helps, I guess.

Had a meeting with our CFO yesterday about interest rates and then he asked me to stop by his office and we talked bank sale. Said he absolutely understands if i think it’s in my best interest to find a new job and that he’ll do anything he can to help me if that’s the case but also give them some time to figure stuff out. He’s going down to their HQ in a few weeks and he thinks he’ll have a much better idea of their finance/data needs at that point and if there will be any opportunities for me to stay on.

He also said that this week HR should be sending out some more info inregards to severance and the like but sources tell me it will be either 5 or 8 weeks minimum, most likely 8. Not sure on timing or if any stay bonuses will be paid.

The sellers had an offer accepted and we'll close in a month providing everything goes fine!

RIBS BACK ON THE MENU BOYS

Remember: it's not truly your house until you pee in the yard (and/or jerk off in the living room).

I picture this fella as the type that thinks he's a bit more shrewd than everyone else. People like that are the ones I like arranging for opportunities to let them talk themselves into everyone seeing the emperor has no clothes.

I seem to recall you thought the odds were pretty decent at being able to find a comparable (or better) gig in the area correct? If so and at your age, I'd say stick around and see what happens. At worse you get a couple months paid to look for a new gig. I don't imagine there'd be any kind of non-compete clause or anything, so roll the bones. Plus it would look better on your mortgage app to not be at a brand new gig. I just hope the house paperwork is final before the job situation plays out.

My boss is just used to dealing with people who don’t live and breathe the job, because that’s the only demographic she’s ever supervised prior to me. To me, all these interactions are the key hands in a big tournament run. I’m not gonna forget what was on the flop when I’m pondering whether to cbet. Etc.

Yeah, I had recruiters calling me the morning the purchase was announced and I've got a pretty in-demand skillset. And as I alluded to, my boss said if I want any help with my resume he'd be more than happy to look it over and our CFO told me that if I can get him a copy he'd be willing to talk to a group of other bank CFO's that he meets with regularly. So, I'm feeling pretty good about job prospects, which will probably come back to bite me. But as it is, I should be good until the end of the year at the very least and most likely March of next year. And now that I have a close date for the house I know not to do anything drastic in the next month.

for napa don, it's all coming together. new house, and a possible two month paid vacation,. i wouldn't discount the benefits of taking two months off with pay. there will always be a job to work, but that kind of opportunity will hopefully not come up again for a long damn time.

start, your company sounds very poorly run. for all the downside of the big corporation, at least they have set review and compensation schedules and they will not be changed.

I don’t know what I’d do for two months. I’d be hesitant to spend any money on house renovations without having a job lined up. I will try to take two weeks between jobs though.

My friends that I was living with are doing their reno at the moment and I was able to claim some furniture for the new place from them. It’s not the nicest stuff and it’s all a little mismatched but at least it’s furniture that I can move in day one (and jerk off on) without having to blow a bunch of money right away before getting settled. And Brvy bless him, a buddy of mine passed up a different roommate situation in hopes of being able to move into my basement and he’s ready to move in ASAP so that bit of income will help with the transition into home ownership, too. He’s also a commercial pilot and works most weekends and he loves my dog and is willing to help out with him. He likes jamming in his guitars so it’s perfect that he’ll be home alone during the day to rock to his hearts content. Pretty ideal roommate, tbh.

I lived with like no furniture for a very long time after I moved in, and just filled in the blanks as the need became more apparent. I am certain that I have much less useless furniture as a result. That’s probably not feasible if you’ve got a roommate etc. but just thought I’d mention it. I gave this advice to my girlfriend as she was buying some random bullshit she clearly doesn’t need, prior to closing or anything.

You don’t have to do anything, you’ll just *be* and that is worth it.

Yeah, my goal is to do nothing or buy anything major for 6 months or so. Probably longer now due to the whole job situation. Really want to be deliberate and intentional in my design. Two exceptions will be painting the pink room, buying some rugs, and a shed of some sort since I only have a one car garage. I don’t know if my roommate will have any furniture to bring but if not I’ll just find some stuff off of Craigslist to put in the basement for him. Otherwise, I’ve got everything I’d need either from living on my own or my roommates. They’re giving me an entertainment stand, some end tables, a couch, a coffee table, and I feel like some other small things, too.

The shed is needed to hold my motorcycle and my roommates motorcycle and the lawnmower and some other tool type stuff. I had originally planned on buying like a $1,800 wood shed from menards but I think I might scale back to just a metal one that’s around $600. But also maybe not. Still up in the air on that.

Now I’m hearing mumbling it’s just two weeks severance for every year of service. If that’s the case and I don’t get a firm commitment of a better job than I have I am out this bitch tomorrow.
