We have day 1 complete at the Expo.   It was a very uneventful day since the turnout was low. I believe that the fight between 2 guys in the industry is going to get nasty and another show is going

Otto and I enjoy it. We spend the whole weekend together and have a blast. We don't make a lot of money from it. We only do it for the love of the hobby   Because of doing this we have met a lot

The show I think was a success. We had a regular win the signed derozan jersey. Thank god he won since 3 guys I have never seen came in at the last second. When the draw was over they left. Peopl

it's crazy how many people send hockey cards to Devan hoping for a signature. It's usually blatantly obvious which ones are actual kids/fans and which ones are autograph hounds with a template letter that they've sent to hundreds of players. I'd say about 95% are just autograph hounds/professionals. Devan tries to sign and return cards to the actual fans or at least the ones that put in the requisite effort to appear to be fans.

Tell him to start "signing" things like this:

I know the autographs are still a big thing, for me as a fan or my kids ...We prefer a good old picture..Seems like a much better memory..I dont care to profit off of anything..Just that I met the guy and had a moment

A couple stories on the subject....

Walter: I probably posting this back in the day, but I "coached" with Walter Gretzky for a season. It was Pitt (University of Pittsburgh) roller hockey. Even made his wikipedia page! ( https://en.wikipedia...retzky#Coaching ) The reason I say "coached" is because he didn't really coach due to his medical history. He tagged along with his best friend and another guy from Brantford. He didn't talk strategy, just encouraged the kids to play harder, smarter, etc. Anyway, I will always regret not getting a picture with him. I sat and had 30-40 meals with him, spent many other hours hanging out with him, but not one damn picture with him. Doh!

Crosby: This was somewhere around 2007 and I was coaching high school hockey. The team played out of the Penguins practice facility, at that time. (Side note: Look up the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex for their new facility. It's decent.) We had a Tuesday 3:30pm ice slot and we found out Crosby would be filming a commercial before our slot. I was standing in the hallway with the rink manager when he came off the ice with a ref I knew that was filming with him, but I hadn't seen in a while. I nodded at Sid and said "Hey, Tony T!" to the ref and gave him a big bro hug. Tony called me later that night to tell me when they went into the locker room, Sid said to him: "I think that was the first time someone was more excited to see a ref than me!" :icon_surprised:

Darling/Crawford: My buddy here is a huge Blackhawks fan. He moved to Pgh from Edmonton like 4 years ago. Anyway, a few years ago we went to the Hawks at Pens game and he wanted to geek out and meet some of the players. We stuck around after the game in the seats around a corner where visiting players will come out and meet people they know in town. I was sitting along the railing next to 10-15 Hawks fans looking for autographs. When the players come out, they'll talk to their people, then sign for the fans. When Darling and Crawford got to me, they stuck their hands out expecting something from me. I just laughed and said "No thanks, but good to meet you." while shaking their hands. They both got a kick out of it and laughed back.

Photos, autographed or not, are just reminders of the memory...and to show off :) . The memory itself is the best/important part. I'd take 30/40 meals and time with Walter over an autograph or a photo. Buuuuut, Tim, you could've had both lol You were likely enjoying the moment to even think about a photo.

I'd like to say it was all just living in the moment but it was mostly due to that being 2003 so cell phone cameras were still shit. With today's phone cameras, I would have like 20 pictures with him!

Circa mid 1990s my cousins were visiting Toronto from New York and we happened to walk into Gretzky's restaurant. Luckily for some reason he was there. We have a picture with the 4 of us that I cherish forever. Its pretty cool to hang onto..

Here's what I find as I start to get old....those photos remind me of the B level stuff that happened. The once in a lifetime, met your idols on the best trip ever, you will always recall. But those other moments that were great but are kind of faded in memory...those are great to have pics of.

My friend gave me an amazing idea for my basement bar. Put up a nice framed corkboard, and I stuck on all kinds of receipts/tickets from places I've been, things I've/we've done. Every once in a while, Im like....oh ya, I went to Barcelona and saw a Super Liga match, there's the ticket!

Heh my two closest stories of actual athlete interactions:

One day we were going to stop by Tim’s to get the kids some bagels. The lineup was a mile long so we skipped it. Find out later it’s because Crosby and Mackinnon were filming the commercial where they’re at the drive-through window. We could’ve been in it!

Other time was when Kirk Muller played for the Leafs. He lived at the far end of my street. I was about 12 and one day was with my friends playing baseball in the school field and he was running or maybe playing soccer with his kid (not sure if he even has a kid). We asked to play with him, and he suggested we all go against him. There were like 6 of us, and he goddamn smoked us. We didn’t touch the ball unless he let us, and we were reasonable athletic 12-year olds. I’ll never forget how much faster and stronger he was than I ever would’ve expected, and how he just never got tired. He was playing at full speed for probably 45 minutes, drenched in sweat with us kinds panting for breath, and he just kept going.

I later saw him at our school’s spring carnival and realized I should get an autograph, but had nothing for him to sign. He seemed annoyed when I asked for an autograph and handed him...nothing - so he grabbed his own pen and signed the first thing I found, a lightly used pizza pizza napkin. I kept that napkin for 5 years because it felt rude to throw it out.

Wayne, get your Muzzin cards up on Ebay at inflated prices. Leafs fans gone crazier.

If it wasn’t for the snowstorm I would be listing them right now. $12!!!!!!! They were $1 before

All of my cards are in my office. Snow is crazy tonight
