  1. Thanks for the responses, fellas. I ended up calling the raise and the flop came JTT with two clubs (I had spades). I check-raised my opponent and he moved all-in with QQ. My hand held up and I doubled up.This hand brought some controversy but I'm still confident I made the right play. If my opponent has a hand like QQ or JJ, I am mathematically correct to call here, and then of course you add in some implied odds and semi-bluffing possibilities, along with defending your blind and I think the call is justified.
  2. What do you guys think is the best play here?To give you a little bit of information...it is in the early stages of a NLHE tournament. A player in early position who plays a pretty straightforward game brings it in for a standard size 3x the BB raise. It folds around to you in the BB with KTs. You hold about 1700 chips and your opponent around 1500 with the blinds 15/30. What do you do?If you could give your opinion on why you selected what you did I would appreciate it.
  3. I'm not defending the other guy or anything, but what the hell does that have to do with anything. The guy is simply stating a point...that's what's wrong with these huge forums...there's so many pricks on the sites that just can't let a person speak their opinion and not get harrassed by it. If you disagree with someone, by all means go nuts...but do you have to make them feel like their retarded?
  4. There's a difference between getting in for a cheap flop or raising on the button and outplaying people after the flop and committing your whole stack with them preflop.
  5. I'm curious though Daniel...when did you end up making your move, and did you get your money in with the best hand?
  6. True, suited connectors are good drawing hands, but do you want your whole tournament at stake when you're possibly a 3-1 dog? Seriously though, why wouldn't he push in with any hand that is a legitimate raising hand? He knows that by just raising, you're committing your whole stack, so you pretty much are all-in. Like Daniel said, it is likely that Antonio will fold his BB in the next hand, so you'll be back to 7200. Yes, you're definitely going to need some luck to come back and win, but I'd prefer getting my money in with a hand that at least might be the best hand.
  7. This seems like clear cut fold to me, so I'm probably wrong. Even as aggressive as Antonio is, it's hard to assume that you're not at least a 57-43 underdog here, which the odds are slightly against you in calling here. I disagree with people that he wouldn't make this play with a big hand like a high pair or AJ. Why wouldn't he? If he makes a standard raise to around 3200 or so, if you're going to play this hand, you're committing your whole stack, because you'll only be left with 2800 if you call. I would hope to pick up a good hand in the next round or two.
  8. I totally agree. There are a wide variety of hands that I would re-raise with here, and 99, TT is one of them, especially in position. Another thing that nick has pointed out is that he re-raised to 750. Why would he overbet the pot if he had KK or AA? Someone earlier said that being out of position is an asset here, but I disagree. If you were in position, you would be able to bluff his KK if the flop came an Ace. Being out of position, you are not able to bluff at this pot on the flop.
  9. A pretty straightforward player would probably make this play with a hand like TT, JJ, or AK. Therefore, I disagree with folding. Ok, moving all-in isn't an option either because it's such a huge overbet of the pot, and if he's got AA or KK your done for. If you call, you have no idea of where you are at in the hand. A flop of J43 with two of the same suit may not look that scary to you, but you could be in deep trouble here. If you check, he's going to bet, and then you really don't know where you stand. If you bet, and he calls, you still won't know for sure what he has...he may have a
  10. There's a limit hold'em player for ya.
  11. If you raise the minimum, you've already committed yourself to the pot. You won't' be able to fold.
  12. I also voted for moving all-in. It's very likely with only two other opponenets that your hand is best. It's also possible that some calls you with a hand like A5 or something like that, in which you have them dominated. If you get called by KQ or 55 so be it, but if you play to win tournaments like I do, you need to win a coinflip here and there to do so sometimes. The game is too shorthanded and the blinds are too large to attempt to wait for a better spot. More times than not, you will pick up the blinds in this situation, anyway.
