So, if you haven't guessed by the title of the thread, this is a story about playing poker with a seriously strapped bankroll..like, 0 dollars, basically..I've been playing poker for about 3 years.. home games, online and a few trips to the casino.. the casinos out here really suck though, only 2 to go to and both are only 1-2 dollar blinds.. (one being a limit table and one no limit) I've only played at a true poker table once and busted after about 3 hours but thats a different story..I don't have a ton of money to spend on poker these days due to bills, bills and creditors chasing me around. I don't play play money tables, I find them reaaaaaaally bad.. but I do play freerolls and often. The players in these tournaments are 99.95% complete jokes... and it makes playing very strange.. no one plays properly (well, in my opinion anyway) and you really have to play to the table. Its actually pretty fun and I've started taking down a few of these tournaments at Hollywood Poker, Cake Poker and Pitbull poker.. Each of these places seem to average 300-500 players per tournament so its actually pretty good, unlike UB, Absolute Poker and FT which have upwards to 4000+ or Sense poker, which average 1500-2000. I haven't taken down any of the big ones.. I think that is a patience issue more then anything..Ok, so the reason for the post now is this. Do you guys consider this a worthwhile way to get my poker in, am I learning a legit way of playing poker and could it turn out to be a positive??and what is my ROI on making 3 dollars of real money from a winning of 1.00$ from a freeroll? Isn't 0 (my starting br) multiplied by anything, still 0? :club:

you'll learn aggression in these. this is a Good Thing. on AP i went from freerolls to $700+, so you can definitely build a br with these as your starting point.the whole "this isn't poker" argument is bullpuckie. once you get to the midpoint people play rather poorly as they desperately try to mincash. aggress, man. aggress. you can Play Poker and outplay them. and if on the very first hand 3 or more people shove, get in there with almost anything. the value of those chips to bully people far outweighs the crappiness of your cards-- and there is always another freeroll, but there isn't always 4500 starting chips out there with your name on them.

Cool, I agree.. the first few rounds are an absolute joke as people go all in wirh 9-2, 7-4, etc.. once the tournament gets going.. the level of play increases greatly. It definitely has taught me alot about aggression though, for sure. I'm not denying they can be a blast to play either.. its fun poker...

I would consider depositing a real small amount of money on stars...something like 15-20 bucks and playing .01/.02 buying in for like $1. I feel like you will learn more there in an hour then u ever will playing freerolls.

I dont know what the fees are but I cant imagine them being that killer on a small buy in. Also you can consider it more of an investment than a purchase. I mean it is possible to make back that fee lol...

hah, yea this is very true... but the fee's are pretty steep.. and if I bust out.. then I pay em again... it could easily become a vicious circle.. but if this is my only avenue then I'll be doing it.
