Facing Large Raise On Turn W Nut Low And Nut Flush Draw

Recommended Posts

Trying to work on improving in all games. Any thoughts in general on how I played this hand. Should I have been more aggressive anywhere, pre flop or flop? On the river once you miss your flush do you ever fold just the nut low? I'm pretty good at limit omaha 8/b, but have very little pot-limit experience so take anything I say pretty lightly.I'm thinking this is a pretty good two-way hand on the flop and that raising to isolate SB is probably best. A raise could drive out the button and help clean up outs if you hit two pair if the SB is betting a low. If SB is betting a high hand, then a raise drives out a button who might have a low that might either tie you or beat you if an Ace or three hits later.Although I'm not sure whether this thinking is correct at the $0.02/$0.05 level since I don't know how much they ever fold there, but a raise on the flop just for value might still be correct in that case anyway. As played by you, I don't think I fold the river.

I would raise the flop with nut low and nut flush draw/ bottom pair. There are only three cards that counterfit your low. You have lots of outs for high. Besides the flush outs, 4's, 2's and Q's may all be winners high. If the flush comes on the turn you lose action. Get the money in on the flop. As played I call the river.

I would play this totally differently. I would raise pre-flop. You have a potential two-way hand plus you have 3 low cards -- a strong hand.On the flop and turn, I am raising, re-raising, and getting chips in the middle any way possible. The river, as played, is a call.My rationale for post-flop aggressive play on the flop and turn: You have the nut low and likely own half the pot already (I think someone would have raised with the nut low). You need to protect your low hand (i.e., avoid getting counterfeited) and you might possibly convince someone with a weak high high (that beats you) to fold (i.e., this will win you the entire pot). If someone does call, then they are most likely drawing dead/nearly dead to the low and you are freerolling for the high -- a good spot!!!

Raise pre for sure. Suited ace with A23 is very high up there in the starting hand tree. Don't get results oriented. Just because you are getting smacked with KK9 flops over the recent past in these situations is no reason to not want to juice the pot up pre every time!!!I'm also a limit guy in cash, really only playing PLO/8 in tourney settings but I will take a stab at this. Being UTG+1 I love this because I don't mind calling a 3 bet if I have to, but I definitely want to see a lot of action here getting this pot. And I want that action at .15 vs. .05/player regardless of position with this start hand.At this point if your raise isolates preflop, you can pretty much C-bet 100% of boards as well when that KK9 flop hits. Typically people are going to just assume you have AA and slowplay flat their K's, maybe flat QQ-TT-9x for one street, and fold a majority of their holdings. That's my simplistic thought on it.
