um i dont like calling that raise in the first place, AJ is a trap hand in that situation. although seeing the action preflop i would call putting him on KK or QQ, although you may have got cased with the A on the flop. so i would call in your situationbut normally i dont like the call pf at all. cheers.ryanEDIT: oh btw, i for sure call in this situation on the flop since it is 4 handed.

I don't like the pre-flop call either. You're a dog to any pair, AK or AQ and those are all likely hands for him to be raising with. The only hands you wanna see are KJ, KQ, J10 but he probably would have just called.I'd call the reraise after the flop. In those fast SnG tournaments the advantage of being the big stack really only means you can survive one or two of those situations. So take a shot.

Thanks for the color guys. Now I agree with you both, I should have folded on the preflop raise. Secondly I should have called after he went all in on me as I was committed to half my stack. Well, I ended up folding face up saying, "I think you have AK or AQ." He smiles and flashes me his hand...AJ! He pushed me around like a little biatch! Soon there after I steamed and went all in from the same spot with K8suited....he called my $4000 with K10 and busted my arse! Hopefully I will learn from this horrific play! Thanks Again!

Probably raise more pf because minraising is really the worst play in NLHE. To be honest, I probably play it the same way and call. Especially if the BB is a decent player. There is a lot of money in the pot, and he could be reraising with a weaker Ax out of the SB.What a lot of you don't understand who are advocating folding pf is that things are a lot different when you're shorthanded and in a battle of the blinds. He could have reraised with a wide variety of hands possibly thinking he was on a steal. In shorthanded play, you can't wait for huge hands because the blinds are hitting you much faster.

I don't like the minimum pre-flop raise. If you would've raised to at least 600 (3 times the bb) or more, it would've been easier to put the BB on a certain range of hands if he came over the top of that. Coming over the top of a button minimum raise often is a (steal) re-steal. But your opponent has raised and you don't really know if he has a lagit hand. Therefore, in your shoes I would not have called the pre-flop raise from the BB - unless i thought he was re-stealing - and i would possibly put in another raise. but i am certainly not calling. I do not call a large post flop bet from my opponent, whether i lead out or not...It sounds like you were probably beat.

Raise more pre-flop especially when you have a legitimate hand like AJ 4 handed. My chips would be in the middle on the flop for sure, you flopped just about the best hand you could want, no reason not to think it's the best hand.Top pair when shorthanded is a monster, you can't play scared always thinkin of the possible holdings your opponent could have that beat you, the odds are that you have the best hand, there'll be times when you run into AK, AQ, but that's just poker.

Interesting situation, and the second small blind situation I've covered today. In small blind vs. big blind situations you need to either REALLY raise it, or just limp in. Making the minimum raise just might be the worst choice available to you. Why? Well the big blind, since he has position shouldn't fold virtually any hand he is dealt. WIth a hand like A-J, you don't want to make the pot bigger out of position since you will be vulnerable to a lot of flops. So, the first mistake here was the size of your raise. You should have made it at least 800 with your hand. If he raised you at that point, you might consider dumping the hand depending on what you know about the player. OK, so you didn't do that and then flopped an ace. After you bet out for 2000, you are pretty much committed to calling for an additional 3000. Your opponent might not believe you have the ace and move all in with KK. Or, he MAY have re-raised you with a hand like A-7 or A-9. Personally, I'm going to check on that flop and see what he does. If he checks behind me, I may be able to value bet the hand against KK or QQ on the turn or river. It's a tough hand to get away from, especially after flopping the ace. If he happens to have 10-10, A-K, or A-Q, consider yourself "cold decked!"

yeah you completely committed yourself to the hand when you bet out 2000 on the flop. There is 7k in the pot right now and you have to call another 3 with tp borderline kicker. I don't know if your beat or not, but i think you gotta call... I want to know what happened. I'm leaning towards you folded the best hand thus the hair pulling... or he had ak, aq or a set.anyway can i edit this and just say: redundant post

Agree that was the real mistake, without a doubt. But since you did call his raise you are pretty much committed after that flop. That's why I think you have no choice but to bet big after hitting that Ace and hope for the best. He may not have called if you beat him to the punch. And, you've got over $4K in there already and losing this hand would not have knocked you out of the tournament.Best...
