Ok, let me first start off I'd like to become a pro at poker. Secondly let me say I'm not going be stupid about it and intend on taking 2-3 years to reach that point. I've been playing Poker for about a year now on and half and I've found myself in my job where I have lot's of free time . So I started to gamble a bit with my money. I'm playing poker much more seriously as well right now. Here's my goal over the course of a year.To turn a initial deposit of $50 into $42,000.The structure of this is simple, for the first four months I put in $50 each month. On top of my initial $50. I then plan for a 12% gain every week on average. So for example my first week my goal was to make $6 playing poker, etc.My rules are this, I can only enter tournaments if I can afford the buy in, such as let's say on Week 3 I'm supposed to have $120 however I have $125, I can use the $5 to go play in a tournament. Secondly I must have 1,200x the big blind on any game that I joinThirdly I play ring games with 6 or fewer players, never moreFourthly If I loose 4 hands in a row I leave table to find another oneFifthly If i loose 1 1/2 complete buy ins I sit out for the day.Sixthy If i reach my 12% goal for the week I only play with money that is in addition to that.To reward my self if I accomplish all of this I will enter a major tournament. Unfortunately can't be the main event next year :club: since i'm only 20 now and will be still 20 when the main event comes around (birthday is July 24)I'm understand that poker is in a up and down and your best bet is to simply try and win more hten 60% of the time. I figure so long as I play super tight 4% gain should be easy. For example my first day I crushed that figure in 30 minutes of play.

Secondly is for limit or nl? Limit is fine, NL is way too small a bankrollFourthly is stupid. Dont do that. Leave a table if you feel it is unprofitable. Dont just choose a number of hands to lose. Sixthly is stupid as well. You are setting stop-wins for yourself and that is just not smart. The only reason you leave a table is because it is no longer profitable. There are many reasons a table can become profitable, but being a winner is usually not one of them. Aside from that, good luck.

Good long term aspirations. If you are serious about this you should do several things:1. Define what being a pro means. This is most important. Is it income level? Is it the stakes you play at?2. Define several short, medium, and long term goals to accomplish #1, be specific. ex: I want to play 10k hands this week, I want to be properly rolled for and beat 25NL for 6bb/100 in 6 months, I want to pay my rent with poker profits within 18 months.3. Don't make arbitrary rules. Leaving a table because you lost 4 hands is silly. If you can't lose 4 hands and continue to play solid poker you have a long dark road ahead of you. If you have major tilt issues you should stop playing instead of just changing tables.Don't stop playing just because you meet your money goal. You have to remove yourself from the money when you are at the table, and just play poker.4. Don't lose you job by gambling when you should be working.

another thing is what is your motivation to do this? poker, for a pro, is not fun and games it is serious work. Can you sit for 12 hours playing and never tilt no matter how bad a beat or how bad you played a hand? Can you focus for that long? Also, if you wanna set goals go for an hour bb profit basis like 10-20 bb an hour pre table. And be aware that the higher you move up in buy ins the game gets much hard, higher variance, and serious study time is required. My roomate played semi-pro for a year or so and went from $225 to about $6k and it took a long time and he set goals based on getting to the next level( like next month i really wanna have enough to play 1-2, 2-4, ect) by using the 20 buy ins rule. Finally if you don't have one get holdem manager and poker tracker ace hud and take amazing notes. Good luck!

Why try to set yourself a weekly objective? Trying to earn 12% of your BR every weeks sounds silly. Just play with hours, not profit.Beside, 12% is a huge amount if your BR gets big. Trying to aim for 12% each week will probably kill your BR.

I hope you enjoy that 10k hand break even stretch when it comes.

Fourthly If I loose 4 hands in a row I leave table to find another one
I disagree with this one. If the game is good, the game is good. Losing four hands in a row doesn't mean anything unless you're tilting. If you're tilting, you should leave the game entirely, not change tables.

I'm here to report my first week, I hit my first goal of $56, in fact I went up to a $66 however am now down to $55 due to some really stupid plays. Calling all in trips vs a full house. I find my mistakes start hitting me once I gain that $1.00 or so, right now i'm playing in a 0.01/0.02 ring games. What happens is I'll start out with $2.00 i'll grind my way up into the $3.00 range and just play stupid. Need to tighten up my game more.
