Hey Spademan

Recommended Posts

What's been with your full frontal assault on religion of late? I've always known you had a contempt for it, but usually it's restricted to 1 or 2 snarky, awesome comments a thread. But recently you've started not one, but two threads that basically could be called " Hey you, churchy.. you've got shit for brains", and you've been blasting with both barrells. What's brought on this assault? has religion done something to you personally recently that has incensed you? Were a couple of Mormon's waking you from your sleep at 7 in the morning the hot straw/camel action you needed to snap? Was there a catalyst, or is this some passing fancy?

Whether he knows it consciously or not, he's looking for somebody here to say something that will make him think that he might be wrong. Unfortunately it doesn't seem anybody here has articulated a case for Christianity in a way that has done that for him yet.I just happened to glance at the "Magic Zombie" thread this morning and his comments made me remember something that I truly believe was a miracle, and it helped me reaffirm my faith at a time when I kind of needed it a little bit. So I have him to thank for that.

Like most people on FCP, he probably just suffers from prolonged bouts of extreme boredom, combined with momentary self-loathing. It'll pass.
This is off topic, but do NOT search for "Jam Boy" in google images.

You know full well that upon reading this, everyone (including me unfortunately)... without fail... will immediately search 'jam boy' on google images.Oh boy. Is it wrong that I clicked on more than one image though?

I find it refreshing. I live in Ohio (unfortunately) and god is constantly shoved down my throat, whether it be in a business networking situation, a social situation, or on the local news (the topic usually does not come up when I am in poker clubs, casinos, or bars). Openly expressing ones disdain for christianity and its adherents is basically social (and career if you are in sales) suicide. It always amazes me how little a role logic plays in most peoples lives. Lets face it, we in the states are just a stones throw away from burning witches.

thats because there is no case for christianity. only subjectively interpreted leaps of faith like you mention.

Oh come on... Spademan has to be the most entertaining debater in the religion forum. Granted, I don't agree with ANYONE in that forum but I have to say, Spademan's post are well written, funny, witty and he is brilliant at agitating everyone into a response. I love it!

You misunderstand me. The quality of Spademan's posts is not the issue, he's one of my top 5 favorite posters, easy. The issue is, what's his motivation for his current jihad ( so to speak).

Personally, I did not read anything into it except for that if you want to create some buzz the easiest place to do so is the Religion forum. I mean, if he is bored and wants a debate, what is he going to do... go into strategy and make a post... "You Pocket Aces Loving Zombies?"He just doesn't seem to have the "personality" that would make me think he is crying out for help or enlightenment. Maybe I am wrong but I just don't get that vibe. You on the other hand... :club:

I'm getting a little tired of this pass we've given to absurdity and stupidity in the name of religion. I've grown a little weary of the taboo we've allowed in social situations to call to attention the contradiction and medieval bloodlust, the eating flesh and drinking blood, the suicide for allah, the compartmentalization of reason -- the entire gambit and sliding scale of silly superstitious stupidity that makes the foundation of faith and religion -- from the most moderate and temperate variety to the most extreme examples of literalistic fundamentalism. I have been privy to a smattering of this foolishness stacked up the past couple weeks.Hearing people say the most ridiculous things and seeing nobody at all take to task this information.I grow weary of this refuge for delusional thought constructs. This last sacred refuge against critical thought and reason. Also, I've got some down time for a bit... so I get a little bored sometimes since I find sleep a waste of time.

Oh, I don't.But sometime's I'm in a public venue, like a diner or coffeehouse, and pick up the paper to read, and get tilted none the less. Local newspapers suck for many, many reasons these days, besides that, I don't want it to seem like that's the sole reason I don't read the paper. If it was a well written paper for people over a 4 grade literacy, I'd subscribe to it.

LOL Really? Any port in a storm, I suppose.
A few years ago I found myself in an extremely desperate situation. It was pretty much life or death. Statistically, what I needed to happen had a less than 1% chance of happening. I've never prayed harder for anything in my life than I did on that day.Either I binked a <1%er in the most important moment of my life, or my prayers were answered. I choose to be grateful to God.

No one has an excuse for this:
  1. We've been posting here forever.
  2. We can use a real list instead of typing the letters by hand.
  3. We could turn off emoticons.

You realize 1% is 1 out of 100 right? You realize that that means it would happen 1 out of 100 times. You realize that those odds aren't even all that great. You know that even something that will only happen 1 time out of a million... will happen 1 time out of a million sometimes.Replace "Luck" with "God" in my sig and the whole thing applies to you. There is no Grand Wizard in the sky who is looking out for little old special chimp, speck of mote on a dirtball floating in vast space you.Get over it.

Yeah, I'm familiar with math and probability. It's how I make my living. I realize that its far from concrete proof. I don't need concrete proof. Faith is worthless if given concrete proof. I said I choose to give God the credit. We all have a choice. If we didn't have a choice...then well...whats the point? Right?
