ohhhh the swings of short handed limit

Recommended Posts

As a prelim to this, I started playing 2/4 short handed (5 max) in the month of July.I just moved up to 3/6 limit, but with a 5/10 bankroll. Reason: Short handed br = biiiiigger. But I also had gotten a good break in thruout July and felt I was ready to go.The last two weeks have gone good. Really no difference between the games at all.I planned on getting in a few hands today, and found a weak 3/6 game. However, problems came up. I dropped 22 big bets in 2 hours and 10 minutes. I lost nearly all my 3:1, 2:1 and 4:1 advantages. Not to mention the suckouts that happened post flop. I just couldn't keep anything going and kept had to make lay downs. I layed KK down, QQ down AK down(multiple times), JJ I didnt' get away from for some reason (didn't think the guy had trip aces, again) but he did. Basically, in 2 hours I played as good as possible and still lost 22 bets. That's fine, it happens. So I leave this table as I don't feel too good there. And the two guys who were calling w any two and sucking out with any two had left. I sat down at another 5 handed 3/6 game and in about 20 minutes made 26 big bets.HOW? Basically make nut flush, cap on turn/riv. Make TP against crazy/agg/loose idiot. cap on turn, 3 bet on riv. I win. I basically took this off the idiot at the table by not getting sucked out on.Needless to say my hands held and i was paid off (way more than I should have been) by this guy.If there is one thing I've noticed about the short handed tables are you have to keep an even keel about the suckouts or you'll go broke. So many times I'm putting in sessions where I can't do anything right although I am making the right plays, but just can't avoid the suckouts. So for those of you who play the short handed tables I salute you (..old beer song going off in back of my head) Short handed limit person. Coming from a strictly NL background, I gotta say playing short handed limit has been a rough ride, but def. a lot more profitable in the long run, than compared to NL. ---Point of this post? Meh, I think I lost it...but perhaps to show the craziness that is short handed limit and the swings you can have. For those who don't play short handed, or are just about to give it a go: Do it. It's a great game, but you gotta be ready for the swings.for the better short handed players, and higher stakes players...dont hate...but i'm curious as to the biggest swing up or down you've had at shorthanded. that's all.- Jordan

In 2 hours I played as good as possible and still lost 22 betsIf this pisses you off, then stop immediatley. I PROMISE you you can and WILL have 50+ BB swings in less than 15 minutes in the future. Just wait.

I was down 250BB after a couple of days last week. What's 5 grand when you're having fun, though.The month before I had a 1000BB upsiwng, like 25 winning sessions in a row.Yes, a thousand.Good luck.
