Just Saw My First Episode Of The Rob And Amber Show

Recommended Posts

So with nothing better to do I decided to watch the show last night, and I will not be watching it again.I dont beleive in coincidence where TV is involved but you would have to if you believe what went on last night. So, Rob gets a poker lesson from DN, its about how to get max value when you flop the nuts, Dn was explaining how you are holding a pocket pair and you flop quads, check it down says DN, let them catch up then trap em on the turn or river. Seems pretty basic poker 101.Then that very night (maybe the next night) Rob goes to play some poker, and he gets pocket 2's, he flops quads (I aint buyin this for a second) the other card was a nothing, a 9 I think. The guy bets $90 and Rob just calls, turn is a 6 (board is rainbow) The guy comes out betting for $200, rob mentions (voice over) how the card improved his opponents hand (just like DN said it would), thinks for a bit and goes all in for what looked like several hundred more, Now the guy goes into the tank so its pretty certain he did not have pocket 6 or he woulda insta called, eventually he calls, not looking happy about it, and the call put him all in, Rob, again in the voice over mentions that the guy is drawing dead on the river (ruling out 66 or 99), Rob wins the hand, just as DN said it should be played !I have a couple of issues here, #1, the odds of flopping quads right after getting a lesson on how to handle it happening.#2, No way did the 6 help this guy out, unless he had something like A6 and thought two pair was good. Did he really believe anyone would call out a $70 bet on a draw ? even my 13 yr old would put you on an over pair or trips if you called, and when you went over the top to all in my 11 yr old would put you on trips or better.#3, With no straight or flush on the board the guy had to be looking at two pair or a boat, you can dismiss the boat as it took him so long to call. If the 6 really gave him two pair as Rob indicated, he would have to be brain dead to call the all in bet.#4, There was no talking in the game, the guy who busted never said a word, now the tv guys could have edited it out but the whole thing smelled just like the fake game DN uses in his video, not only that but Rob is such a bad player, the other guys had to act like complete rookies in order for him to win a dime

Boston Rob actually played in a local tourney I played in about 2 weeks ago. He was in town with Amber and came to play with his father-in-law (I think his name is Val) who is a semi-regular at this place. Everyone was whispering around "Hey, that's Boston Rob". I didn't even realize it but I was sitting right next to his father-in-law for most of the tourney.Funnily, I had just watched about 3 episodes of that horrible reality show myself earlier that week. I was flipping channels and saw Daniel so I stopped to see what it was. As bad as it was, it was about poker, so I watched a few episodes in a row on the marathon showing.Anyway, Rob busted out about middle of the pack and played in the cash game for a while with some friends of his (I think they were friends of his, as one of them also had a Boston accent). The best part was when one of the regulars stopped at my table to say hi to Val, and he asked him "Are you still in?", to which this kid said "No. I actually busted out on the same hand as Rob, a 3 way all-in". So then Val made a statement I found rather amusing. He said "Well, at least you can say you went out with the best."Now, granted, they showed about 4 hands worth of Rob's playing in the 3 shows I watched, but this guy certainly isn't some incredible poker talent. Honestly, and this is purely my opinion, the guy comes off as being a complete tard. Now, I'm sure he's an ok guy, and I'm sure his father-in-law is just proud of his son-in-law, but I thought his comment about Rob being "the best" was somewhat inappropriate.I consider myself to be a solid player, and I am very happy with the way I play the game. And I know there are a number of other players at this place who are very good players as well. So for Val to assume Rob was the best player there, just because he was lucky enough to have the funds to attempt a career playing poker (which apparently didn't materialize as they were moving back to Florida unless their reality show got picked up for another season), and the fame to get an offer of lessons from Daniel, that he was better than all of us schlubs was pretty insulting.Anyway, like I said, he was probably just being a proud parent. Overall, Val was a very nice guy. The only words I spoke to Rob were "See ya man" as he was leaving, so I can't comment on him at all, but like I said, I'm sure he's an ok guy. He just needs to stop wearing that stupid visor thing backwards and upside down. Holy crap that annoys me! :club:

Oh, I almost forgot...You said that show is rigged (or at least the poker is). I don't know about the poker scenes, but that hand could have come from any time during their filming and it was just edited in after the Daniel lesson because it would be appropriate. But lets face the true idiocy of that scene... Here's Rob, an aspiring pro poker player and he doesn't know to slow play his flopped monsters without Daniel telling him to? I mean, come on. The poker instruction from Daniel had to be scripted, because nobody with even a short poker resume would need some of that advice. It was obvious it was dumbed down for Survivor and The Amazing Race fans who weren't watching the show because it related to poker.Anyway, there is probably almost no reality in "reality TV" anymore, so I wouldn't be surprised if all of the poker hands they showed were staged.

Rob is the best, at survivor and the last few weeks of amazing race !! He scored a hot babe off the island which is pretty cool.
