Fishing Thread

I don't think I've seen too many threads here on fishing, if any. Any recreational fishermen here? True anglers?Last weekend I decided to head to a quiet pond with a buddy of mine and enjoy the outdoors and do some fishin'. It brought back a lot of old memories as a kid as I went to this exact same spot with my best friend and his dad when I was about 12. We brought a canoe then and I landed a few good size bass, it's still a memory I look back at quite often.Needless to say, I caught nothing more than a sunburn this time around after 4hrs of fishing from the shores & from a dinghy. Even though we caught nothing, we still had a lot of fun. I think fishing is often overlooked as something fun to do, when in fact it's truely an amazing stress reliever. My buddy is coming up here tonight and we're going to do some dock fishing tomorrow morning around 6am. Even though last weekend was my first time fishing in about 10 years and caught nothing, I actually can't wait to go again.Any regular fisherman here? I'd love advice and just talk about it in general. I prefer a spinnerbait myself to hit the weeds and the occasional wounded minnow lure.If I catch anything tomorrow, I'll post a picture lol.

My uncle is pretty big into fishing. I remember one time him and his buddy went out on the Potomac and they found a dead body. No lie!Oh, nightcrawlers and a bobber for me!

I don't know why but this pic reminded me when Adam posted(in the porn thread I think) about a video he found of a man and a woman hunting and shot a bear and then had sex on the dead bear in the woods.

She does kind of look like a filthy porn star.

My best friend is an avid fisherman. I go with him a couple times a year. I live in probably one of the best bass fishing areas in the country and I rarely go. Hell I can walk to the end of the street or sit on a buddies porch and toss a line in the delta, and I only do that on occasion.I like fishing with people who are better than me at it, because then I catch more fish, because they know where to go, and the nuances of that particular area, and what to use.A few years ago I went with my friend to go fishing for Lake Trout and caught a 37" 17.5 LB Mackinaw, that to date is my crown jewel of fishing. The worst fishing experience I ever had was catching a 150lb Halibut in Alaska. It was like dragging a dead body 300ft off the bottom of the Ocean. No fighting, nothing. Just 45 minutes of reeling and a bruise on my hip bone that did not go away for a month because the ******* that owned the boat would not give me a hip holster for the rod until the final 5 minutes. But the fish was yummy, and quite a neat thing to see get shot in the head with a shot gun slug so it did not thrash around trying to pull it in the boat.

I'm a great American fisherman, I'll fish anywhere, anywhere there's water god knows i'll be there. I'm just like a gypsy, mighty hard to hold, great American fisherman I got fishing in my soul.I went fishing today, caught a 6 lb bass.I used to fish every weekend until poker consumed my life.

99% of the fishing I have done was in Lake Champlain and worms with a bobber would catch you all the perch you can eat!
This statement does not make any sense.

I fished a lot as a boy, small mouth bass in the Licking River in Newark Ohio.Southern California is a terrible place to fish. if there is a fish, there are 40 guys with poles and boats all around it.I was just yesterday talking with a buddie on the golf course about my desire to go fishing.

Doesn't SoCal hold some of the largest bass in the world in its lakes?I heard anglers catch largemouths over 15lbs on a regular basis..

I fish the Bow River in and around Calgary all the time. Fly fishing is the only way to go. Quite often we catch rainbow and brown trout in the 22-27" range and they can take 1/2 hour to land because they are so strong. One of my best buds is a pro guide and has a drift boat. I'll look for some pictures when I get a chance.

But fishing for me is also being alone, or with one or two buddies at most.Having a ranger at the boat launch stopping boats from launchings because the lake is full every single day gets old.

Solitude is one of my favorite aspects of fishing.I live in Kansas so the lakes obviously don't get that full, it's nice in the winter when there's no one within 5 miles of where you're fishing from.

Yes, I <3 fishing. Was raised fishing freshwater, spent my teen years fishing salt water. Here's where my camp is locateduntitled.jpgSmack dab in the middle of the best fishing on the entire planet earth (Homosassa flats) for these...tarpon_homosassaflats1.jpgor, if you're a Canadian, these....gaea_ocean.jpgAlso a pretty avid crabber (and have been doing so since long before Deadliest Catch existed). We use a 14' Skiff to drop small pots in the intracoastal to go after mainly blue and stone crabs...blue-crabs.jpg... and, when shrimp are running, I cast net for them on the St. Johns River.ShrimpyGoodness.jpgsdfgi4679i5r.jpg

Perch FTW! That is one good eating fish. My grandpa lived in Northern Michigan, and we would fish for perch, bass, and salmon. We would go out on lake Michigan and get the king salmon when they'd run, it was a great time, good memories from when I was young. I don't know $hit about fishing now, except that the rocket fishing rod thing kicks a$$, my kids love it.

Nothing like being on a boat on a lake in Kentucky at the crack of dawn and casting the banks for Largemouth Bass. Sometimes just hanging on the bank fishing for bluegill (they put up a good fight) and drinking beer is one of my favorite pastimes.I grew up hunting and fishing. Nothing like froglegs and duck eggs for breakfast. Fried turtle for dinner. Bud Light for a snack.

Or how about setting up your crappie rig with wonderbread doughballs and hooking 4 at once and hooking yourself at least once while taking off the flapping monsters and swearing you'll never use a crappie rig again, until next time you go fishing. We used one at a recent overnight trip to Ensenada for a Tuna tournament to catch live mackeral. Just shiny spinners and a chum bucket and pull up 4 at a time, hold the line tight while one guy takes the fish off and throws them in the live bait well.Man, I need to go fishing.

What kind of crappie rig? When I was little my brother and I were fishing in a row boat for Crappie with live minnows and he caught a monster 3lb 7oz crappie. When we got back to the camp we looked it up in the record book and realized it was a state record so we got tons of witnesses, pics etc. There used to be a local guy that wrote in the paper about fishing and had a monthly contest. We entered and he won a ton of cool fishing stuff. Two months later someone broke his record by an ounce. I'm sure that fish had a couple lead weights in it's belly though, lol.
