David_Sklansky 1,903
Best owner in American sports. I assume there is some Russian football team owned by a cartoonish crime boss who makes the whole team listen to him play the cello after every game or something, but you can't beat this in the states. I didn't even believe it when his behavior was first described to me.
FCP Bob 1,312
Sterling Story http://www.jeffpearlman.com/the-eccentric-donald-sterling/ Anyhow, according to Phipps, Massimino boarded the jet, and when he landed in Los Angeles he exited the walkway and spotted Sterling. “They met,” said Phipps, “and between 3 and 4 in the morning my phone rings.” It was an irate Massimino. “I’m sorry,” he told Phipps, “but I’d never work for that son of a bitch. Ever.” Phipps, half asleep, sat up on his bed and asked what went wrong. “Here’s this guy,” Massimino said, “and he has this blonde bimbo with him, they have a bottle of champagne, they’re tanked. And Don looks at me and he says, ‘I wanna know why you think you can coach these niggers.’” Massimino told Phipps he began screaming at Sterling and swore he’d rather die than become coach of the Clippers. “That,” said Phipps, “was life with Donald Sterling.”

Good thing they didn't catch him with a boner while watching one of those old Welch's grape juice ads or they'd have already shoved him into a whisky barrel and rolled it into a volcano.

BigDMcGee 3,352
LeBron went HAM, during a time where a lot of teams are muzzling their players http://deadspin.com/lebron-james-there-is-no-room-for-donald-sterling-in-1568198962 1) I love that LeBron doesn't give a **** and says what he wants to, because he knows he has all the power and leverage right now 2) I think Lebron wants S-Dot gone, so he can move to the clippers. He's be a perfect fit. Except, you know, sterling.

David_Sklansky 1,903
is there any way they can force him to sell the team for this? You're the lawyer here, but I recall at least the nfl can do whatever they want w/r/t/ ownership. I assume they can take over the team, sell it, and give him most of the money. The Ocho 970
is there any way they can force him to sell the team for this? They can forceable remove him as owner using something called the best interests clause. If it is determined that he as an owner is financially affecting the league, they can take his team, then sell it to whom they want. He still gets the money, but he would be out. They have never done this, and I am sure they do not want to because it sets a terrible precedent, but they may use it as leverage to force him to sell. It will be interesting for sure. You feel like a batshit crazy billionaire -- who's willing to blackmail a district attorney -- is going to be shamed by Snoop Lion making a Vine and calling him a bitch? If you can't be sued into complying with the civil rights act, you probably can't be Vined into giving away the most exciting team in North American sports. I hope he makes them take him kicking and screaming, and jams them up in court over this for a decade.

David_Sklansky 1,903
Like I said, best option is to try. Have the players and coaches all boycott a game and see what happens. I think the last thing Silver wants is for this to start ruining actual basketball. It's already an impossible shitstorm for him to escape clean, but any solution that involves the mutiny of other teams I think might make it seem like things are a little out of hand. Essay21 2,385
It wouldn't be his choice. I'm talking game one next year all the clippers players just go out and right at the tip walk off the court. They boycott and say as long as that racist dickbag owns the team we ain't playing. I'd love to see it.

I'm talking game one next year all the clippers players just go out and right at the tip walk off the court. They boycott and say as long as that racist dickbag owns the team we ain't playing. I'd love to see it. Well you said "have the players..." so I assumed you meant it would be organized. It would get Silver fired, but the players wouldn't care about that. I think the main obstacle is that this story is going to cool down and they will lose a lot of their immunity to overreact to shit over the summer. It would have to be a team with a lot of white players who don't make too much money, if you don't want the narrative hijacked and the story to have any overtones about rich, entitled niggers interfering with a capitalist's billion dollar business
BigDMcGee 3,352
Here's the play I think you do. All the players band together, and make a Major League style run. Them against the owner. And they make it improbably to the finals, against Miami. LeBron is best friends with Paul. He's already gone HAM at sterling, harder than I've ever heard a player go after an owner. I think, at that point, both teams walk off and boycott. THAT would be seismic.
