This is the official thread for the new game I am playing...Croquet.The US team won the Solomon Cup this year for the first time in 18 years. This is where the US puts up a team against the Brits. They held this at my Home club..Mission HillsI just ordered a custom Mallet..$300I have played golf croquet and American Rules, but only watched the International Rules when the National Championships were held at our club a couple weeks ago.I told my buddies at Poker night that the Nationals were coming up and two of them came over to watch, both of them were blown away at how cool the game is when played by the actual rules, not backyard free for all croquet.Anyone else ever play/see real croquet?

Trust me, I know..croquet?A 120' by 80' laser leveled court with wickets sunk 2 feet into the ground so they cannot move, with 1/8" of an inch clearance for the 1 pound balls in each wicket, and enough rules to make an anarchist explode...this game is fun.But we also play a lot of golf croquet, which is where 2 people each get a pair of colored ball, and take turns trying to be the first person to get their ball through the 6 wickets in order. Once a wicket is made, that person gets the point and they all move on to the next wicket. You can jump a ball, knock it away, set up and shoot the wicket from 10 feet if you think you can make it.Tons of fun and for the rest of you, there is a lot of drinking involved for everyone ( except me )

Playing again today. My new mallet is awesome, really heavy and long handle.Wish the courts weren't right next to the tennis courts, the tennis weenies whine whenever I fire up a cigar.Man the tennis weenies are babies.

I play poker with this guy at our home game, he's number 1 in the US.

The rules are confusing, but to help understand:When its his turn, he can hit his ball one time.If he hits a 'free' ball, he can then pick up his ball and place it against the ball he hit and do any of a number of shots, breaks, take-aways, pass rolls etc. Then he gets another turn to hit his ball from where ever it ends up. This makes the last ball he hit dead until he makes a wicket.Once he makes a wicket, all balls are alive again, so almost always guys at this level hit their ball to one advantageous location, while sending the other ball to a place they can use in the future. If they incorporate all the balls, then its called a 3 ball break. Guys at this level can make all 12 hoops, then peg out a ball in one turn, so they had to institute a rule to stop their turn after winning hoop 6.The players each have 2 balls of different colors, either black and blue, or yellow and red. They have to make both balls go through all 6 hoops twice then 'peg out' to finish. This makes 26 points total to win. Games last 1 hour.If they get to a point where they can't make another shot, they will send their ball off court into a corner near their other ball, anywhere that helps their opponent the least. That's what Ben does at the end of this video.
