Did I Get Carried Away Here?

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t200 (6 handed) Poker-Stars Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: FlopTurnRiver)MP (t12045)CO (t785)Button (t1135)Hero (t4780)BB (t3615)UTG (t4640)Preflop: Hero is SB with Qspade.gif, Qdiamond.gif. 1 fold, MP raises to t400, 2 folds, Hero raises to t4755, 1 fold, MP calls t4355.Min raise was opponent's typical raise. This was the third time in [guesstimates] about 25 hands I had seen him raise. Also top 4 cash and there are two shorties. Aside from the min raises, he was playing okay. Should I be going for it here or just taking a flop in light of the fact that I can probably coast to the cash most of the time. Blinds were 100/200 with 25 antes, so my M is ~10. Table is fairly passive and I am probably the most aggressive player.Edit: Also, I cashed out most of my bankroll for bills, so I am actually playing short. Not sure if that is a factor or not. It is a $1.50+0.25 18 player, that is what I usually play.

What kind of tournament is this/buy in/how many pay? I think I actually prefer a "Go and go" here, where you make it 1500 preflop and jam any flop, unless you flop a set on a non drawy board..If that is the case, check/shove

This is from a guy named Bond's blog on tworags.com..He wrote a ton of strat articles, and this write up kind of explains your hand...Heres the link if you want to read more...http://www.tworags.com/blog/bond18/post/11...etting4_bettingExample: Your stack: 35 BB’s. CO’s stack: 40 BB’s. You hold AsQs in the BB.Preflop: Folds to CO, CO raises to 3 BB’s.Alright, now the mistake some players make here is reraising to small. At 28 BB’s going to 9 BB’s would be fine but in a spot like this you need to bloat the pot, so I recommend making it about 11 BB’s. Assuming there are antes, if CO elects to call there’s going to be about 24 BB’s in the middle and you’ll have 24 BB’s left in your stack. On the vast majority of flops you need to be open shoving. THE ONLY TIMES YOU SHOULD BE CHECKING IS WHEN YOU HIT A CRUSHING FLOP. If you hit Ad 7s 2s (or something similar) you should be check shoving that flop. So after I make this post if I see anyone do this and fold a flop because their scared to shove I’m going to get medieval on their ass.

The first thing you should be thinking is that a huge overbet with deepish stacks is NEVER right. The next thing is listen to throw and bond18

Edit: So basically the long and short of it is I want to try and 3 bet for value an amount that if called, the pot on the flop would be roughly the same size as my remaining stack? Then I am open shoving every single flop regardless of what hits.

You got it...of course the PF raise cant be a big overbet to accomplish that or your stack is probably to deep for a go and go to start with.

One of the reasons a go and go is better here is because like Copernicus alluded to, if you shove like you did, its an overbet, which narrows down the range of hands Villain can/will call with..When you do that, hes basically only showing up with hands that beat you, which sucks when were holding a monster like QQ..So what you want to do is have a plan for the hand.We have 24 BBs and the MP raiser put in 2 BBs...If we raise it to 8 BBs and he calls, then we have a ~17bb pot on the flop, and 16 BBs left, which makes it natural to shove...The only exception I would say is if you flop a set on a non drawy board...In that case, like Bond says, check/shoving is the play to get most valueThe key is to take into account stack sizes when you are making your reraises so you don't have an awkward amount left..

Is one of the advantages of the standard reraise that Hero can fold if villain pushes, or is Hero going all the way here regardless?Let's say Hero reraises to 1600 and villain pushes (or reraises enough to put Hero all in) - would it be terrible for Hero to fold and conserve the rest of his 3000 chips because villain's reraise makes AA/KK more likely?

As long as AK is in villains pushing range QQ is almost always a call with dead money in the pot since its only a 3:2 dog vs KK+, AK and you can rarely be confident that the range is that narrow from a single reraise. 3rd hand in raising makes that narrow a range much more likely, but also means the pot/implied odds are much better.

Good point. This is a $1.75 and people do all sorts of stupid things, especially with a big stack. In addition to AK you could probably also include hands like AQ, AJs, JJ, TT in his range. I got knocked out of a $3.40 STT turbo last night when the bigstack raised UTG and then called my not-insignificant push over the top with his K4s.
