I Called In Sick Today

You're thinking about this the wrong way. This isn't jewelry, where the markups are cosmetic and arbitrary, These aren't overpriced Nike's that are only priced where they are, because of the logo on the side of the shoe. They are priced what they are, because of the level of craftsmanship in them These are goodyear welted shoes, not only are they more comfortable than the cheap shoes you wear, you'll be able to wear them for a decade if you take care of them properly. You''ll get many more wears per dollar than what you're spending on your current shoes, you're just paying the cost upfront, instead of having to buy the same shoe 5 times over a decade.

Also, these are your god damn feet. Think about how much time you're on them. Shoes and beds are the last things you should cheap out on, they are the foundations of your life and your comfort ( or discomfort)

i understand that logic, i really do. just the thought of wearing 350 dollar shoes and its raining and i step in a puddle. i don't like that thought.

and after 3 days, he is risen!

If you are paying $20 for a haircut, I imagine people assume you did it yourself anyway.

Pocket change cost me my first and only black girlfriend.   It was in the middle of a roaring poker boom and I was flush in ways most men don't even bother dreaming of. Money, it was like dirt to me

Turns out my review process is pretty good already, but not as overkill as I thought it was...

I've been meaning to listen to that cast. My annual review would normally be in the next 30-45 days but likely we'll just skip it this year in light of the promotion. I need to crunch some numbers though to figure out what my bottom acceptable raise percentage is given that I'll be skipping a year of merit increase which is usually in the neighborhood of 3-5%.

I saw a coworker doing a payoff with your employer after this year’s bonuses. She is in the higher bonus tier, gets probably $40k at a minimum each December. I am just dreading this review season. The bar is impossibly high for me to be happy, let alone just less demoralized.

My boss likes to unironcially wear Hawaiian shirts on Friday.

I started wearing Hawaiian shirts in high-school somewhat ironically. As time marches on, I become increasingly aware that it won't continue appearing that way. (I don't wear them as frequently anymore, but I still love them.)

My boss likes to unironcially wear Hawaiian shirts on Friday. One time our CEO asked him if Walmart was giving away free shirts or something.

Me? I’m wearing a royal blue gap polo, uniqlo jeans, and the old j crew Nike killshot 2 sneakers that they discontinued for some reason.

J Crew restocked the killshots! Get ‘em while they’re hot! I bought myself another pair as my current ones are close to end of life and these are a very good casual spring/summer shoe.

If I lived in South Florida, I would wear nothing but khakis, cuban shirts, and sandals every single day. Same if I lived in Hawai'i.

I feel ya. My weights been creeping back up and I need to do something before it gets even more out of control. I did just buy new running shoes but haven’t used them yet. I’m the worst.

I'm at about 185

I'm surprised to hear this. I thought you were still on the straight and narrow.

I was for several years. My drinking got completely out of hand. I cut it back recently, but it took 2-3 years to put it on, it’ll take a little while to get it off unless I want to get militant about dieting. I did it in the 2012-2013 period, I suppose I could do it again.

I am fine. You have to remember the context of my last post. I was debating sharing my blog with you all to allow you some/more access into who I am, where I've been etc...

Then I realized that nobody here even wanted me here. Remembering Napa's collage of posts wondering where I was when I was in the hospital one thing that jumped out at me was some comment about being too dumb or whatever to even care or notice I was being Jeepstered for the longest time. Brvy claims to be the godly one but was probably the biggest ass to me of anyone until recently. Napa goes from being a dick to not a dick constantly, then theres Thera and hank....Cobalt seems cool and SA, while I wanted to believe we were cool I think he just fell on the thread sword to be nice to me to keep me around and the thread somewhat alive since I added some content at least. So finally, after how every many years I have taken the hint that I'm not welcome and will not be posting going forward.

Good luck Napa, moves like that are good for the soul. SA, get the hell out of the apartment and have a life man, Thera, burn in hell, Hank, good luck with the blonde, Ron, keep on keeping on. Best to your wife and dogs. Cobalt, congrats on the healthy kids and marriage, Run good. Brvy keep up the Sunday Christian gig, it fits you well asshat.

i wonder if tilty is still alive and kicking. hope so.

On the other hand, I used to love you Essay, and now I wish God would take the cancer from Tilty and give it to you.

Somebody who thought I took their turn at a 4 way intersection followed me home and when I got out of my car I saw it was a large old lady who started getting out of her car to tell me I took her turn and then I asked her if she was fvcking serious because I was through the intersection before she even realized what was happening and she said well it doesn’t matter and then I told her to fvck off and get the fvck off my property. She started backing out so I went back into my car to grab my bag and go get the mail and she’s waiting for me and so I yell at her some more and she says “well that’s what I’d expect from a fat slob like you” and then she drove off.

And for the record I didn’t take her turn. I turned right from the right most lane while the car left to me was going straight and blocking her anyways. I had completed the turn before she even entered the intersection. Even still I gave a my bad wave once I realized she was honking at me even though I did nothing wrong. And she obviously wasn’t in a hurry if she had time to follow me and try to lecture me or something? I don’t know. Fvckin old white ladies man.

Boss came to me today saying he wants to tell the guys that will be reporting to me in their O3 on Wednesday morning then announce the promotion in our team meeting that afternoon. I was like "Um, aren't we skipping a rather significant step?" He looks at me for a minute and say "Oh! We haven't made you an offer yet!" He still has to get a couple of boxes check marked so it might be next week before we can announce but he's hoping we can get the offer taken care of this week.

I've never been followed home before. That's a pretty aggro stance from her. Also, you make a good point.

Got into a fight with my girlfriend tonight. She came over for dinner, we start talking about work afterwards. She was complaining about all the praise someone else in her department is getting--you know, not really drawing a conclusion or building a plan of action, just, "life is unfair." I asked her to listen to the career tools podcast stuff, and she says to me, "I have this test coming up in two months, so I don't have time right now." I know what her routine looks like, and that's a bullshit excuse. I unwisely called her out on it, and she got offended (as is fair).

I just get flustered during these conversations because she has tuned me out in her decision making. Sometimes it feels like she wants to try the opposite of whatever I suggest, just for the chance to have an "I told you so" moment. She's getting her ass kicked in almost every way possible, and it kills me to watch it. Is she doing good in life considering all the stuff working against her? Absolutely, but her ceiling is so much higher, and the necessary effort is so minimal. I hate the situation so much.

Hard to say...I didn’t even see her until I had already started marching towards her and by that point I was pretty committed. I’d like to think I wouldn’t have ran screaming towards my house, ultimately unable to get in because I don’t have a house key and it would have taken too long to type in the door code to the garage.

But also, like, what other demographic is going to take it this far based on a perceived slight?

i'm fairly confident every race has idiots and douchebags. personally, in public, my response is highly dependent on the person i've encountered. old white lady, she's getting the bird or a fvck you. old black lady, i'm ignoring her. old white man, and i'm confident i could take him in a fight if it came to that, piss off buddy. old black man, an apology. the younger and healthier the person, the more likely i am to say nothing because i cannot risk physical confrontation with someone of average physical strength.

I’m never engaging anybody in situations like those unless I absolutely have to. I definitely would have apologized to the idiot, just to get them out of my life sooner. I bet it felt nice to say “get off my property” though. I can’t say that unless they’re parked in my spot, and even then, I think it still belongs to the HOA.

Come to think of it, I’ve only honked a few times in the last year, and it was either a courtesy honk or an educational / avoiding future danger honk. No extended “Fck you” honks.
