Top Pair With 2nd Nut Flush Draw

Recommended Posts

$100 NL, sorry I don't have the HH in front of me, but it's pretty easy to explain.Blinds .50/1I raise to $3 in MP with AsQd, MP2 raises to $9, folded back to me and I decide to make a bad call. Flop AJ4 all diamonds. I check, he bets $15, I raise to $45, he pushes (we both have about $100 at the start of the hand). Thoughts on all the action? No read on villain, I'm new to the table.

Since you have no read on him I would probably fold. To me it seems like you've run into a set of Jacks. I doubt he would reraise with A/J and probably wouldnt push all in with an Ace on the board if he had Kings. He probably had pocket Jacks and is pushing hoping you have a high Ace and also to push you out if you had a flush draw. I would lay it down and wait for a better spot.

I think the turn raise sucks, also I don't like putting over half my stack in the pot and then folding. Call this time. Also I have been noticing a lot of people using the weak lead lately.

I see the villan with AK here and he could easily have Kd, fold.com
Your reads amaze me.I think you should work on putting an opponent on a range rather than a specific hand. You'll get much better results.

PF I would fold AQo OOP without a readflop I would check to him, maybe ch/call in the event he will bet QQ/KK, never ch/ras played you pretty much committed yourself and have to call I guess since you have the flush draw which might be good. But as played he has AK/AJ/JJ/AA I think

The call pre-flop is ambitious as you are out of position and beat by many hands. Tough call on the flop but I would normally just call and fold if the turn comes rag and black and villian bets any decent size. As it turns out you got all your money in without only about a 35% chance of winning (if your opprnent doesn't even have king or ace D).What happend then?

Thanks for the responses all. I realize that the check-raise basically committed me, as pretty much the only hand that I'm not getting odds to call against is AK with the K flush draw. I guess I was hoping he had KK with the nut draw, which is certainly in his range but perhaps not terribly likely. As it turned out he had AA (wtf Lee Jones, can your deck please have more aces in it?), so my draw was good, but I bricked.

*i've read no repliesi'm assuming you were vs AxKd... unless he was stuborn / stupid w/ KxKd just looking to suck out w/ the diamond.. i can see him having JJ or even something as sick as AA in this spot as well... that would logically explain the reraise & large bet on the flop... doubt he had Kdxd- he'd have had to reraise you w/ AT BEST K 10 suited to have flopped the nuts... i'd fold right there to be completely honest... what can you beat? nothing that he pushes with after being check-raised by the one who opened the pot... yeah you might make your flush, but how do you know it's good if it hits?---------edit*i didn't take into consideration that you'd commited yourself to this pot =Xin THIS specific situation, i'd say the check raise was the worst thing you could have done... you have to call nmw if he pushes.. i like the check/call more.. idk.. i hate playing OOP.. especially in this sort of situation...
