Switching To Real Life Play

Recommended Posts

Live poker does play slightly differently in my experience. Form the couple of live NLHE i have played and the one time i played limit full ring at a casino, the average player at the table does have much of a clue what they are doing at all, don't care to notice pot odds or opening ranges, is mostly there for enternaiment, and goes by the gut feeling they get. The standard opening is either very big, like 10x or more BB, or sometimes they will just love to min bet and min raise. Mechanically if you are a good online player you should be able to beat most low stakes live games at casinos or home games ( I assume you are going to be starting out at like 1-2 NLHE and or the smallest stake they offer and work your way up.) This is what i have heard on forums from people like Barry Greenstien and Justin Bonomo ect was that take the online stake you play and multiple it by 100 and that should give you basically the comparable average level of the players and the game, so $1-$2 should play decently similar to .01-.02. The hardest thing about live games is being willing to not play too many hands and wait for decent spots, when you may be used to play like 1-4 tables online and now you have one game going 1/3 the rate of pace, maybe even slower, it is easy to get slightly bored and play some bad spots because you feel like you have been folding away for 45 minutes. In general i find playing rather tight and very aggressive seems to work better live then on the internet, people seem to be more willing to look you up live then on the internet. Also, lots of inexperienced players seem to always wanna make wild ass hero calls with middle pair or weak top pairs on scary boards. Just play simple small hand small pot, big hand big pot poker and stack them off. Good luck!
