seymour15 0
Ok, I imagine as many of us post on here or read the board at least that we all know our fair share of people with gambling problems, we might even have one ourselves. Here's what I'm getting at: I have been having success on the net for a while now. I'm not of age to play in casinos yet, but have been doing well on the net. Today as I was finishing up a SitnGo I had a guy ask me if I could loan him $100 due to the fact that he had lost quite a bit the night before. I have a soft spot for people in a bind, but I also believe that you have to know when to quit. I think that I will loan him the money this once. We have corresponded by email and I believe that he is truly in a bind. I am not trying to brag, but loaning him that money won't hurt me at all, but I don't want to get a reputation as someone who will get you out of your binds and I don't want him to repeatedly ask for loans. Am I wrong in loaning him the money? I will have some pretty stiff stipulations when I loan it to him.
tekn0wledg 0
I wouldn't loan him the money. People online look for suckers and he might think you are one. If he can't afford to be playing online for a mere $100 then how do you expect tha the'll ever pay you back?
seymour15 0
That is a very good point.
bdluss 0
DO NOT LOAN HIM ANY $. Here is the thing, if he is in a bind cause he cant win $ online than first he is not a good poker player, and 2nd there is a great chance you will never see that $ again. Great article on cardplayers most recent issue addressing this very situation of lending $ to poker player (or gamblers) for that matter. Wilderness 0
If you want to loan a friend some money because he/she is your friend, you trust them, or whatever, that's fine. But I would never loan some random person online money, period. What's the best possible scenerio? You get you money back. But when you don't know someone, the risk is just too great and there is no reward. When helping out a friend that is just something that friends do for each other, but don't start giving away money online.Unless its to me of course
Stinglikeabee 0
Why the hell would you loan some random on the Internet one hundred bucks? Don't be a sucker.
Wilderness 0
That's a great article by the way, I didn't notice your post until after mine, but I've read that before and I'd recommend that seymoure read it as well.
seymour15 0
Good points everyone. A couple of points. I have known the guy for a while now, we have exchanged emails and chatted on instant messenger some and played against each other some. I have just emailed him though and told him that though I feel like I know him, I am not going to loan him money. If he is desparately in that bad of a bind he needs to contact family members and close friends. I wouldn't be helping him.
wrto4556 0
My momma used to ramble alot of shit to me when I was growing up. Two things really stuck:"Shit on them before they shit on you.""Friends come and go, family lasts forever."Both apply.

Guest
Sometimes you have to protect people form themselves. Thats why I feel so lucky in the games I play at. If I go on tilt the gamekeepers who are my freinds will pull me aside and tell me to go home because im not playing right. They won't do that for everybody, and I don'think it is their responsibility to do so.
grdred944 0
By now you've seen the general concensus that you shouldn't 'loan' someone the money for gambling. My two cents is that I totally agree with everyone here. You may have a soft spot but you're actually hurting the person by being a crutch.Or, the person is a shameless con who does this to many people. These cyber-bums have no shame and prey on people with soft spots. Your thinking is noble but if this person has legit financial problems, you would be hurting him more than helping. Rmoneymaker8 0
I think theres no way at all you can loan him the money. Have you seen him in person and know that he truely needs the money. He has to think ur a sucker. You have no way of absolutely knowing that he will pay you back. If you give him the money he will just go gambling with it. And what if he loses. Hell ask u or someone else for another 100 dollars. Your not helping his gambling problem, your hurting it. I too have a soft spot for people in a bind, but you need to know when and when not to lend money. You should have had an aggreement. For example, you give him money for the sitngo and you watch him in the tourny. If he finishes in the money you get so much of the prize. For example, u give him the money and u get 15% of his winnings?
314HxC 0
Of course "lending" strangers money is a bad idea, but I could see sending him a check or something if you are really trying to help him. If you were just going to transfer from your account to his, then it's a really bad idea. it's like giving a drug adict $100 to go buy drugs.
