Aj On Button. Marginal River Decision

Hero has been very LAG. My continuation bets have often gotten called by random trash, but I'm playing 4 tables and I can't recall if I have clashed with this particular villain.Villain is 53/3/1 through only 43 handsPokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $0.50 BB (5 handed) Poker-Stars Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: FlopTurnRiver)Hero ($95.35)SB ($65.75)BB ($56.55)UTG ($7.30)MP ($69.05)Preflop: Hero is Button with Jdiamond.gif, Aclub.gif. 1 fold, MP calls $0.50, Hero raises to $2, SB calls $1.75, 1 fold, MP calls $1.50.Flop: ($6.50) Qclub.gif, Jheart.gif, 2heart.gif(3 players)SB checks, MP checks, Hero bets $5, SB calls $5, MP folds.Turn: ($16.50) Tspade.gif(2 players)SB checks, Hero checks.River: ($16.50) Qspade.gif(2 players)SB checks, Hero bets $8, SB raises to $18, Hero ???Is this ever not a Q?

He called you on the flop. I really don't think anyone would call with a deuce in their hand except for pocket deuces. At least not against anyone with any kind of table image. So, he's either got a Q, J, or AA/KK. With no re-raise preflop, you can assume he doesn't have AA/KK.I would've checked the river down behind him(sorry, that was results biased). It would've saved you $8, but it let you know where you're at.Fold and kick yourself in the rear.

No. I get called by weak Jacks and underpairs here all the time. This is an easy value bet IMO. I usually have a semi-maniac image.

I figure it's for pot control. Do you advocate betting the turn for value or as a kind of "value bluff"?
On a board that drawy, I would bet the turn and check behind on the river, which charges him for draws and avoids this stupid spot that we're in now and can get additional value from hands like KJ or J9.I would also check behind on this river almost all of the time. I know you're saying that he'll call with worse, but there aren't a whole lot of hands for him to call with.

I checked the turn for pot control and because I had a hand with some good showdown value and the pot was pretty big already, however I was wondering if betting turn and checking river would be better. It does get roughly the same amount in the pot but with a definite showdown. Against some opponents I'll check this turn to induce a bluff on the river, but this definitely isn't the right opponent to try that against.given that we checked this turn, do you really advocate checking behind on the river? This guy has a 50 vpip, we aren't really behind that many hands. Don't you think we are giving up value by not value betting the river? I could be wrong, I'd like to hear your reasoning.Keep in mind I've been raising about 25% of total hands preflop, closer to 35% of my button hands. I seriously quite often get the blinds protecting their hands with like K4o, or Q7o. And I always get floaters on the flop with mid-pairs on overcard boards, or like mid, bottom-pair bad kicker. If I'd bet the turn and gotten called, I wouldn't consider betting the river, but given that I checked the turn, I think I'm liable to get called by a wide range of hands here. But like I said, I could certainly be wrong, and I'd love to hear some discussion on it.

I check the river because:There are very few reasonable hands that he can call with since most of his range is a missed draw or a hand that beats yoursThere are a few straight possibilities as well as a paired boardHe could easily be checking a weak Qx hand that he won't foldYou can get c/r and you really shouldn't be calling the c/r if he does it

I'm fine with a turn check for pot control purposes. If you check turn, you need to bet river. Once he raises, it's an easy, standard fold. Getting 4:1, you still only beat a bluff. You certainly don't beat a hand trying to get value with a river C/R.

wtf is with villain's line?I see this a TON in posts here and hands people AIM me.Flop goes check, bet, call, turn goes check, check, and river goes, check, bet, raise. It makes NO sense from a theoretical point of view, IMO. I just don't understand how a made hand does this.

seriously. 9 times out of 10 river checkraises make no sense.

weird river. i think you could be looking at a queen (most of the time), a full house (makes some sense, since you bet the flop he could check the turn and hope for another bet to call if he had pocket 2s), or a busted flush bluff (very uncommon, but it happens). i doubt aj wins this.
