NL RING GAME ?'s

Recommended Posts

I've got a couple of thought I need some of your input on . Thanks in advance for all your time and effort . NL RING $50 Max. $1 blinds is the battlefield for all of my questions .Assume table is mostly LAG with a few rocks . UTG - AQx I sometimes raise $3-5 , but mostly limp in . Any thoughts ? AJx I limp in . Both of these hands I'd drop to large raise . Is this a correct play ? A10x - Fold. I raise UTG $5 w/ say AKx or AQs , get one caller . Flop comes all low cards . Should I raise ? If not seems the enemy, knowing I most likely raised with a premium hand will raise with garbage . Correct ? Should I fold to a raise if I checked it to player ? Or call ? I hate the call . Maybe over the top to feel it out ? One more , with small blinds is it better to slowplay AA/KK UTG to lure the enemy in ? Thanks once again for any and all your help . Play well every one !

First off there is no such thing as "the" correct way to play No-Limit Holdem. There are many different successful approaches and the key is adjusting to how your opponents are playing. Personally I play tight/aggressive so in a ring game I'm going to open with a raise if I'm the first one in the pot. It gives me a chance to pick up the blinds and prevents them from getting a free look at the flop. With AQ or AJ suited I'd generally open-raise. With AJ off suit I'd generally pass UTG. I make all my opening raises the same size generally to 4 BB. If someone reraises me I'd probably let it go since most players only reraise with AK or a big pair in a full handed game. Most of the time I'll follow up a pre-flop raise with a bet on the flop if I narrowed the field to one or two players. It'll take down the pot a good bit of the time and then if they start to play-back at you eventually you're going to have aces and be able to take down a big pot.Limping early with Aces or Kings is only a good play if you expect to get raised before the flop. Then you can reraise and try to win a big pot. But if you try it and then five opponents see the flop, don't get too attached to your aces because it's pretty likely that someone have hit two pair or a set on you.

In a tough game AQ off is an automatic muck. But since there are alot of loose players you should probably play. Given the nature of the game, you want to always enter the pot with a raise. AQ does not play well in a multi way pot. As for post-flop play, if you are the preflop raiser and are called, you should almost always bet out. This is a limit holdem concept called taking the lead and most players will have trouble calling if they miss the flop. (warning: this play needs to be performed with caution if playing in a large multiway pot.)As for AA and KK, you should still raise since a 5-way pot is a disaster. Also the stacks arent particularly deep in comparison to the stacks so the implied odds to slowplay just arent there.

It's also a good ideawhen raising preflop to try to raise close to the same amount every time, instead of raising a certain amount with one hand and a different amount with another hand. This makes it so people cannot pick up patterns on your raising and be able to tell what kind of hand you have.

AQ can be a trouble hand but ive never played in a game where it was an automuck. if theres a raise then you can muck but to open muck AQ even in ep is in my opinion usually a big mistake. maybe daniel can tell us how often he open mucks AQ. im betting its not that often.matty

Raising the same amount helps to keep your hand hidden, and does being consistent when you reraise. After the flop is when you might want to vary your play. If you always lead with good hands, and always check when the flop misses you, you have a leak that needs a little fixing.Try leading when you miss some flops, and checking when you hit them. A nice check/raise will bring home more in the long run, including a healthy dose of satisfaction.Plus, every now and then someone will think you are on a steal with a check/raise and will donate most of their stack to you.Good luck.

From reading your post, It seem like there was at least 50 questions in there. Well, ok maybe 49. I think basically you are saying, what is the best way to play no-limit cash?In seattle, at the tulalip casino, there is a no=limit game everynight, and i do quit well. I'm lose only about 1 out 10 sessions. I'm no expert. But i'll share a little few things with you. Please bare with me, everything i write below maybe just bullshit to some of you...lolI study everyone's play at the table all the time. In no-limit, knowing your opponent is key. But probably more important than that is.. "WHAT DO MY OPPONENTS THINK OF ME!!!???". Sure, its very important to read your opponents..but i'm always thinking..what do they think of me and what do they think I have right now?Successful bluffs will get your through the night. The other thing that I think makes me successful...is my ablilty to throw away hands when I run into something bigger. And the ability to lay the hammer down when the time is right. I'll elaborate later on this.first I want to answer one of your questions...You have to put in some kind of raise with AQ. Tonight I just happened to watch two people limp in with AQ and the small blind limped in with 7-4...Guess what the flop is...Q-7-4...The guy with the 7-4 was offsuit and checked the flop. One of the AQ guys went all in..and of the 7-4 called all in for a pot of around$325 in a nolimit game that has blinds of 5 and 3.Don't try to lure the enemy in by limping with big hands in the sb or bb. You'll regret it. It'll work sometimes but I highly do not recommend it. Believe me, if someone can call a huge bet after the flop will have you beat. And plus, probably the most important thing, YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT THEY HAVE BY NOT RAISING. If you put in a good raise before the flop, you can eliminate the goofy hands. If you have a playable hand in no-limit..raise. ITs so crucial to raise in no-limit before the flop. More so than limit. If you encounter a huge re-raise..YOU MUST HAVE THE DISCIPLINE TO LAY DOWN ANY AQ OR AJ OR KQ OR 99 OR 88..ETC .ETC AND PLEASE BE SURE TO LAY DOWN 3-8 OFFSUIT.There is so much to write, but since i said I was going to elaborate on something..I"ll do that and end it. Last night, I Q-5 in the small blind and called 2 more dollars...Well they were suited. And 4 people had limped in for 5 dollars. the flop is 2-4-5 with two diamonds. My Q-5 is top pair but I do not have a diamond draw. I checkedbb checkedloose player makes a bet of 20 dollars and the other 2 limpers folded and now its' up to meI looked and saw the better had 61 dollars left. I'm sure my pair of 5's with Q kicker is the best hand. Loose player must be on a draw. Not sure what the BB has. 2-4-5 is actually a dangerous board. So I decided to raise it to exactly $80 and put the original better all in. the bb folded. And the original loose player called all-in. I turned over my hand and my opponent has 2-3!!!..bottom pair with a open ender. I ended up wining the hand. I think I just gave that story is to say that, in no-limit...the right decision is done allot of times with out one person having AA and another person has KK going all-in. It's a game where you have to make good guesses(And I mean they are guesses!! lol) on what the other person has and how to protect your hand. One more really good thing I want to share..Lets say you have 6-7 suited and the flop is 4-5-9. You check, and some one (behind you, who limped in before the flop)bets $20 dollars. You called with your open ender. The turn is a king. On the turn, you bet $50 dollars. The guy behind you, who originally bet the flop folded..Well that actually happened to night. I wanted to share that with you because the reasoning behind the turn bet"WHY TRY TO WIN THE POT ONE WAY WHEN YOU CAN WIN IT 2 WAYS.!!"*think about what that quote means before moving onWhat that quot means is that if you checked and called on the turn with an open ended draw, you can only win one way. By making your straight. By betting the turn, you can win by a second way, your opponent folding. Or worse come to worse, make a straight(Unless he has a king, he's not calling. He most likely had a nine when he bet the flop. He will think you made kings' up)remember,,checking and calling...BAD BAD BADanyways good luck..I hope you can use some of the crap I just wrote. lol
