Cardinals and Red Sox

missed it by that much

If you root for St. Louis and you're not from the immediate St. Louis metro area, you're a horrible person.

God Cabrera is just so gross. It's getting really hard not to take him for granted, but sometimes I watch him hit and I feel like, "NOPE NOTHING IS REAL." For a few microseconds, I no longer understand the concept of "is," and my brain can only think in imaginary colors. "What color is smerlish? WHO CARES MIGUEL CABRERA." I literally become, LITERALLY, an imploding star and destroy the entire universe, except THE UNIVERSE IS NO LONGER A THING!

Heh, I had just finished reading the game recap when I read this and thought it was weird that you posted it after an 0/4 day. So I check the box score and find he was actually 0/3 with 2 walks. Not a bad game by most standards, but hilarious that I can read a game recap, think to myself "wow, really atypical to see Cabrera make so many outs today" and find he actually had a 400 OBP for the game.

He's like Pujols a couple years ago. Just a goddamn machine.

Pujols is still the best I've ever seen. What he did the first 10 years of his career was mind boggling. If you stack their best years up, Pujols beats Cabrera pretty soundly, excepting this year if Cabby stays on this pace.

I am always amazed that Davis gets anything but curveballs, and that he is an MLB player. I think I've seen him hit one curveball in my life, and he puts the most awful swings on them with consistency.

That .gif reminds of a game they showed on a super-old VHS Blue Jays highlights tape I had. The Jays were up by 11 or something in the 5th inning and it was snowing, and they were trying to strike out to get the game to 5 innings, but the White Sox pitcher was throwing them to the backstop every time...not clear if it was on purpose or because, you know, it was snowing.

like seriously why the hell is MO in for the 8th and not the 9th?

Because if the NL scored 4 runs off Nathan in the 8th and the AL didn't respond, there wouldn't be a bottom 9th.

The all-star game is stupid.

You know how the NFL doesn't allow blitzing in the Pro Bowl? Baseball should ban non-fastballs from the All-Star game. Let's juice the scoring a bit.

Because if there's one thing we can all agree on, it's that more all-star games should be like the Pro Bowl, right?

Yeah that is stupid.

Are you serious? It's the mist iconic reliever in history's last All Star game. Do you think Leyland was going to take any chance of ruining Mo's moment? I thought he handled it beautifully.

I'm actually one of the few Tigers fans who really likes the job Leyland does. He's not perfect, but I've always felt like he sees the big picture as well as anyone in baseball. Also he smokes in the tunnel during games.

I am serious. 3-0 lead was plenty safe to let mo work the 9th. Guy over thought it.

Rivera absolutely HAD to pitch in that game, and Leyland wanted to pay tribute by letting him come out alone and throw a whole inning. That was infinitely more important than Mo throwing the ninth. Are people really complaining about this? I haven't been on theinternet all day, but I assumed the reaction would be overwhelmingly positive.

I have heard a few complaints, but I assume those are the people who just want to complain about something.

I have heard more complaints about him winning the MVP, but when no hitter does anything significant and no pitcher pitches more than one inning, you might as well go with sentiment. I mean, who really was the MVP?

I have a serious baseball crush on Manny Machado.

I agree with the people saying he should pitch the 9th buuuuut I did read another explanation was that he didn't want a situation where the AL got into trouble and he had to bring him in mid-inning and he wouldn't get the proper tribute. I buy that more than I am concerned about them giving up a 3-0 lead.

Whatever the case, it was incredibly stupid for him to win the absolutely meaningless MVP award, and the all-star game "counting" and yet the managers being expected to use all the players is idiotic. If you pinch-hit Torii Hunter for Mike Trout, the game doesn't or shouldn't matter.

With widespread interleague play and an approximately level playing field on both leagues, there is no good reason that home field for the world series is determined by anything other than best regular season record.

All Star Weekend is like my holy season. The Home Run Derby is my Christmas.

This stretch is my favorite of the year from a gambling perspective, with the possible exception of the opening weekend of the NCAA tournament. Betting the Derby is so fun, and it's a great lead in to the Open Championship. The only events I never miss wagering on are the Derby, the Open, the Match Play, the NBA All Star nonsense, and the NCAA tournament. I play the MLB playoffs, too, but that's down in tier 2.

Everything NFL related is alone in Tier Who Cares Betting the NFL Is Dumb
