bankroll questions

Recommended Posts

Was just wondering, I know how to keep an online bankroll, but that's only for cash games really. I know 250-300 BBs for limit, 25 full buy ins for NL and PL. However, what should I be doing for SnGs and MTTs, for example, should I be allowing 25 tournament buy ins? I play a lot of £10 lightning 6 man SnGs should this require a BR of £250? Or should it be higher as I can't leave the table if I am losing and variance states that I will be losing a full 'buy in' with each loss. I do have a higher BR than this (Not gonna give you full details cos it's none of your business! lol!) However, I want to move up the SnG limits, I have won a couple of £30 6 man lightning games and want to know how high to work my roll before staying at this level. Just so you know, the payout is 4.5buy ins for first and 1.5 for 2nd. Any thoughts?

anyone?
in tournament only poker (MTT, not STT) id say you should have 30 or more (more the better) buyins at your disposal. you can go weeks without cashing if variance is against you. as for STT, id say 20-25 buyins is good, depending on your skill level. if you are a pretty good player, 20 should do, if you tend to be just average, 25 or more might be better to help you get a consistent profit.patrick

I'd think 25-30 buyins would be plenty for these sng's. I forget who exactly, but I believe it was one of the FullTilt pros advocated having something like 100 MTT buyins, since you can go for so long without cashing, and even when you do cash, unless you make it deep, the payout isn't all that great. :club:

it depends very much on the number of people in the tournaments. If you're playing 1000 person tourneys on Stars you need a lot of buy ins. Personally I play mostly on Full Tilt in 200-300 person tourneys most of the time and I wouldn't say I needed more than 20 buyins to keep me going.
