and after 3 days, he is risen!

If you are paying $20 for a haircut, I imagine people assume you did it yourself anyway.

Pocket change cost me my first and only black girlfriend.   It was in the middle of a roaring poker boom and I was flush in ways most men don't even bother dreaming of. Money, it was like dirt to me

hank, what you said to your boss is exactly what i'm going to say. i'm going to say you will not have a single applicant that matches my education and work experience, so why would i not apply? Then hit them with the how eye opening it is to realize one is more valuable to another company than the one currently telling him he's doing a great job.

One word of caution In my scenario I had 2 other factors working in my favor. First, my performance had pretty much lapped the other team member. I was working about 50-60% more tickets and resolving them in 40-60% less time. Second, I had the deepest product knowledge, customer knowledge, and historical knowledge of anybody in my entire department and all but 2 or 3 folks in the other customer facing departments, so my expertise power was pretty strong. No employee is irreplaceable but I was perhaps within spitting distance. I think it is still a good point to bring up, but you might have to be a bit more judicious in the language you use etc. unless you truly do not give a shit.

don't worry hank, i am far more likely to say nothing than to actually say anything that could get me in trouble. i didn't get into this situation by speaking directly and with authority.

One of our younger JDs put in notice today. I don’t know the specifics other than he’s moving to another industry. I thought he was pretty good, and seemed like an example of the kind of proactive guy you’re gonna lose to this job market.

I applied to a position today myself. This is my dream job so timing is irrelevant I just have to go for it. It’s probably not feasible because they want a trust counsel to work part time, which is so weird. But I figure I apply and make them aware that I’m ready to work full time so why bother with some semi retired, over the hill old fvck.

discussed the issue with my boss today. she assured me my promotion is forthcoming, and when questioned on timing answered "soon." i didn't press the issue further because i've given up on life.

i have bigger fish to fry anyways (i got some fish sticks at the store last night).

When I received those types of noncommittal answers, unbeknownst to me at the time, it was because there was some friction at a higher and/or HR level. Some was recalcitrance, some was simply the slow grinding bureaucracy of the barely competent. Hang in there.

Who’s got weekend plans? Napa what’s up with the house? I’ll bet Strat has something cooking. Maybe Brvy will see his kids this weekend. God only knows what everyone will get into.

My buddy works for the same company as you SA and they’ve been jerking him around promising a promotion and raise for the last year, too. Says this month is when HR should push it through. Hopefully it’s the same for you.

No real plans. Some talk of taking our kayaks out but nothing solid yet. I finally feel like I’m making progress with unpacking and the house no longer looks like a war zone. I’ll still need to go through and actually give some thought to how to arrange stuff but for now most stuff is in a set place that has some sort of organization to it. I’m starting to worry I lost a few boxes along the way because I haven’t come across some items I was looking for (my cooking utensils, for example) but they’re probably just in some box unrelated to everything else they’re packed with. That’s the hope, anyways. So, there will be more unpacking. I’ve got a bunch of stuff to return to menards and some other stuff to buy so I’ll do that tomorrow. Hoping to get my pink room painted, as well.

School starts soon, so I'll be messing with that stuff. I think the boys will probably go to Six Flags Great America (since we have a season pass). My youngest is having his 12th birthday party on Saturday and we have about 60 people coming over for the party. I think that's about it for Casa Brvheart.

It times like this that I wish I was good at smoking meats. I could really use something cool like that to make me more socially acceptable.

Thanks for the invite Brvy, I’ll see you Saturday at the party.

Nap that’s interesting. I think your buddy would likely agree that the management of this company is a joke. Hopefully they do right, finally, by both us soon.

You all have a standing invite to come to my house at any time for any reason. That should have been obvious.

Definitely O'Hare. MKE is actually the easiest in/out and it's about 15 minutes closer than Ohare.

Sorry I've been MIA lately.

I think I forgot to mention last month that I finally got hired as a teacher at a private school. Upon my initial interview, they told me I'd likely be teaching History and Physics. Last week they informed me that I'd be teaching HS English. I've been doing a lot of tutoring over the past couple of years, and I will continue doing that with this organization (expanding into official SAT/ACT tutoring), but it's going to be interesting having a steady daily routine with students. I suppose the fact that it'll be one-on-one is in my wheelhouse with what I've been doing, but it's also the first time that I'm going to have to put together curricula and lesson plans. The idea is exciting in that I can finally create a class that I wish I'd had as a student, but it's also a little daunting.

I pretty much started getting temporary students last week, and I think it has been going well so far.

I have an undergrad, what would I need to do to be a teacher?

If you wanted to be in public schools, you'd have to pass a certification exam in your subject area and convince someone to hire you (which would then allow you to get a certificate). In private schools, you don't necessarily need certification...just convince someone to hire you.
