  1. It used to be dissent, but if I remember right, paying taxes is now the highest form of Patriotism.
  2. I will just point out that under this system, anyone making between $35,000 and say $41,000 is a complete idiot. If you want to have a starting point for a flat tax, you make it all income above x(x= the number you start at)taxable at whatever %. Otherwise, a pay raise from 34k= net loss of income. The 35k income earner you example here would have less net income than someone making $29051.
  3. really? It's pretty standard on these forums for a person to post a link and then provide at least some of the link on the site here. Just sayin'....
  4. So, I've now been drinking for the better part of 20 hours, and I came up with a question. Can someone sue the government over the constitutionality of them forcing us to buy health insurance? Hope they don't decide I can't drink anymore cuz it's too costly for them
  5. Hmm....I think I'll just get drunk tonight. Nothing about this seems like a very good idea......
  6. From a transcript of the news confrence.I've also pledged that health insurance reform will not add to our deficit over the next decade, and I mean it. In the past eight years, we saw the enactment of two tax cuts -- primarily for the wealthiest Americans -- and a Medicare prescription program, none of which were paid for. That's partly why I inherited a $1.3 trillion deficit. That will not happen with health insurance reform. It will be paid for. Already we've estimated that two-thirds of the cost of reform can be paid for by reallocating money that is simply being wasted in federal health ca
  7. Well, first tourny I've played in awhile. Not a high priced tourney, but I'm happy with my play today.PokerStars Tournament #178348649, No Limit Hold'emBuy-In: $2.00/$0.206828 playersTotal Prize Pool: $13656.00 Dear grimtaash,You finished the tournament in 33rd place.Went out when my AK couldn't improve against JJ.
  8. Listened to a health insurance commercial the other day. It's sell point was along the lines of this: What good is the best insurance in the world if you can't afford the premiums? To me, that pretty much sums up the #1 problem with the current healthcare ideas floating around in congress. Even if they are good ideas(and I am in no way suggesting they are), I don't see how we can afford them, especially in the current economic situation. There is simply no way to pay for a huge increase in government without a significant increase in taxes. I don't see how making people pay higher taxes t
  9. I may be wrong on this, but this sounds like a George Bush word.....
  10. I agree with you.....A complete waste of my time is only worth watching on Monday nights. Not Sunday nights.
  11. Oh, and drunker point now. I agree that McCain/republicans, whatever, would probably not do much to help the current economy. But I truly believe that the government has a lot less influence on the economy than most people think. I DO feel that one thing the govenment should pay VERY close attention to with its policies is inflation. And I have a feeling that in the near future we're gonna see some serious inflation problems. Hope I'm wrong, but when you take on this much debt with no plan for dealing with it in the future......
  12. Well, I went out and got good and drunk tonight after this passed the senate. I pray to God this "stimulus" bill works. I worry that even if it works it's too expensive. I hate to even think of how much the next "stimulus" will cost if/when this one doesn't work.
  13. Our government at work: Well, $700 billion didn't seem to work. Wanna try $800 billion?
