Arrested today for underage gambling. Local casino night ( I've been to a lot of these, all of which the minimum age to play is 18 and I'm 20), this one was just down the street. VFW hall had poker, blackjack, and let it ride. I was playing 5-10, had roughly $350 on the table. Cops busted in like it was a crack house. I was cuffed and taken to the station where I recieved my citaion. Daddy came and picked me up and paid my $200 fine. Of course I had to pay my dad back so a -$550 night. Beautiful.

well, think of it this way, all great poker players were arrested for underage gambling sometime, maybe it will apply to you 8)
No kidding.....If I remember correctly Josh Arieh has a great story on his Journal about being arrested at a pool hall. Years later he ran into one of the guys he was arrested while doing some sort of promotional event. There is probably nothing worse than having to have your daddy come get you out of jail when you are 20 years old. Hopefully he'll be cool enough not to constantly remind you of this for the next twenty years.

Yeah this isn't the first time a casino night has been busted up. However it is the first time I have been arrested for being there. If the cops would have came 1 minute sooner, I would have been in the bathroom and they wouldn't have been able to prove the chips on the table were mine. Unless I was ratted on.

so if the min. age is 18 and you're 20... why'd you get busted? never answered that did ya eh?
sorry, I guess the organizers were misleading people because the police said if i was under 21, I was underage. Plus, I'm not sure the fact I was underage played much of a roll because in Ohio gambling is illegal. So I guess the organization didn't have the correct permits to operate a charity event. Which is usually the case when these things get busted up. My citation was for gambling. How people are supposed to knowif it is legit or not, I don't know.

Sorry to hear about the rough night. Come to Indiana...the grass is so much greener over here.
How so? It's not like gambling is legal. Plus the state government couldn't run a business, let alone run a state. They have several cities with professional sports teams. We have one. Sorry. I am, obviously, not currently a fan of this state. Don't worry, I'll move out as soon as possible.

Sorry, I don't buy it. "How was I supposed to know i'm underage?" Most of the time the real thing going on is the person chooses to believe what he wants to hear. All of the time, the truth is seven digits away on the nearest telephone to a reputable source. If one really wants to know, it's easy to find out.

How do you know. You're living in the US, the legal age for gambling is 21. Simple enough.
are you sure, how old do you have to be to play the lottery? legal DRINKING age is 21. In Canada, drinking age is 19, gambling age is 18, but since all casinos serve booze you have to be 19 to get in. That doesn't make the legal gambling age 19.

How can you say that when Indiana has casinos? Ever been down to Evansville and played at Aztar? What about the proposed casino in French Lick? You, my friend, are blowing smoke.

Just so everyone knows Alberta, Manitoba, and Quebec all have drinking ages of 18 (therefore gambling age)http://www.ccsa.ca/index.asp?ID=28&menu=&page=209

I don't understand. If you live in a state that it is illegal to gamble in (hence the police raid on a vfw hall for ___'s sake), then it seems to me there is no legal age for gambing at all. Not 18, not 21, not 65.

Hey man,You're getting screwed. State v. Argea and Ryals v. Collins both held that even if you're gambling illegally, the State of Ohio can't seize chips that aren't in the pot at the time of the bust. I gotta do some more research on the 18 vs 21 distinction . . . but there's no way you should lose your dough, EVEN IF you were in fact underage.I'll post more later,Mike
