Al Gore And The End Of The World

Recommended Posts

Pretty shocking stuff and full of good intention. For the most part the majority of experts agree that the world is indeed warming and I do believe that we can do much more than we have been up to this point. But...are WE really the cause of it all?Calm and balance is needed IMO, not movies degrying the end of the world. The planet is much bigger and badder than we are. One huge volcanic eruption and all mans efforts to change the planets eco system up to that point would be thrown out the window in the blink of an eye.I believe the world is getting warmer but am not yet convinced that mere human existence is the sole cause of it all. Al Gore is a true environmental crusader but I feel he leans a bit to the extreme side a bit. It's good that he's got many folks attention because certain things really do need to change, but he comes off a little bit like a bomb thrower to me with this film. There is plenty of mis information out there, on both sides regarding global warming. Can we do more? Yes. Should we do more? Absolutely. Is there a plethora of alarmist/extremist rhetoric out there to scare the beegeezuz out of everyone? Heck yeah!Is running scarred, demanding immediate and risking irrational change and panicking before all the facts are known a wise thing? I say No....for now anyway. Ted Danson shouted to the world back in 1988 that all the oceans would be dead in 10 years. Hmmm...good intentions but he missed that one by a mile. He meant well and it is good that it brought folks to look hard at the issue, but he was way off. Back in the 70's all the worlds scientists were crying that a new ICE AGE was coming!Daniel, I applaud you for taking the steps in your life to effect changes that you feel will help, and I truly respect your opinion on this important issue. This is not an attack so please don't take it that way.I just urge everyone to look hard at both side of this issue. I truly feel that the truth, like most things, is somewhere in the middle. Here is a link to provide some balance...http://www.consumer-guides.info/gov_info/g...ming_facts.htmlBest to all. :icon_cool:edit: sorry everyone..I did not see the other thread on this issue. My apologies...

Excellent link Nutz, this was what I was thinking of when I created my first post on the subject. But I only heard it talked about on the radio and was trying to go from memory. Based on what he said in his blog, I would be real interested in Daniels comments to each of the points raised in the article.

This is the best post and link on this page. Wish I would have seen it sooner. Great job nutz, I hope Daniel gets time to read the link you provided.

Appreciate the kind words...just one guys opinion, trying to put a little calm in the storm here.I did come across a rather ironic/ interesting thing the other day...I was surfing and stopped at an interview with a climate expert on the Weather channel. He's a certified meteorologist, NOAA member and has been involved in various research programs for the past 30 years. He is convinced that the world is getting warmer but that this phenomenon began over a hundred years ago and is mostly due to a natural cycle. There is no solid evidence yet (in his opinion) that it is all man caused...but he also agreed that it sure couldn't hurt to explore ways to find alternate energy sources anyway. Not a big fan of the oil companies or our lust for foreign oil. I Can't fault him there. To D N, I know you are a passionate guy but to say you "hate" someone is a terrible thing bro. I know you are way better than that.Anyway...peace out folks. :club:

You yanks are going to destroy the planet with your ignorance.
LOL, you have got to be a joke account. Sorry I didn't see it before. :club: Actually what's really going to destroy the planet is the over hyping of global warming, causing there to be a backlash against the whole environmentalist view, which will result in ignoring the real pollution problems that are real and affecting the fish population in our oceans.Just like the DDT nazis that resulted in a person dying every 7 seconds from malaria because the world banned DDT since it makes egg shells softer. At least they feel good about themselves.

Unfortunately not, although I am noticing a fair few joke accounts floating around here. It is ignoramuses such as yourself that has spurred me into action.

In fact, having read the literary equivalent of acute irritable bowel syndrome from the likes of you and countless other misinformed Americans on these forums, my consciousness has been well and truly raised concerning how little you clueless yanks know. I can just imagine Balloon man now: "As long as there's cold beer in the fridge and a game on the TV, who cares about "global whatisname"? We're American! We drive fast cars! It's our God-given right to pump more pollutants into the atmosphere than is safely permitted! You're not gonna stop us, you whiny, cheese eating surrender monkeys!"

Dude, it was fun, but you are letting this get out of hand. We're allies in the war on Terror. Both our governments invaded Iraq. Let's not fight.and I don't drink so the beer drinking red neck stereo type falls short.

Ah, so you're one of those bourbon supping hicks then? ;)I do not dish out insults and generally hang around internet forums for nothing. I am genuinely shocked and a bit unnerved by the horrible misinformation that you Americans are being served concerning global warming. Like one's faith in a deity, I can see that this isn't something that I will be able to simply rationally convince you of. I just hope when Bush gets out the road your country will take the matter a tad more seriously. If my country had been doing the kind of cover up job that yours has been doing, I'm sure I would be saying the same things as you. It's not your fault, your ignorance is as a result of the society in which you live.

Well I'm glad my being a stupid, homophobic, ignoramus, bourbon sipping hick isn't my fault. It's society's fault.I'm a victim.
