2-5 Spread Limit Strategy

Recommended Posts

Just to start out, I've read some Sklansky and SS2's Limit Holdem section, so I'm not completely ignorant of standard limit play, but I'm not as experienced as many of you here. What I'm wondering is how I should adapt that strategy to fit in a 2-5 spread limit game? (Blinds are $1, $2, and bets and raises are anywhere from $2-5 on all streets)

Basically, treat it as a $5 limit game. You're always betting $5.

Well, spread limit offers more flexiblility than limit and I think it'd be a mistake to just ignore that completely and bet the max on every street. I usually do bet the max also but based on situations, I vary my bets in certain cases.

i would say dont slowplay as much as you might (if you do at all) in a regular limit game since you cant make bigger bets on later streets.3-bet the flop more for value instead of raising turn to better protect your hand, because you wont be able to.

Play more hands pre-flop than you normally would b/c you have slightly better implied odds. With made hands you want to be betting the max as much as possible to charge people for their draws. If you're drawing and someone is betting small you're getting good odds to call so do so, there might be situations though where you should fold a draw that you might play in standard limit (especially on the flop when the bet sizes are normally smaller).

I also had a question about a 2-6 spread limit strategy I had been using when i was in highschool. This strategy is used in part to lower my varience to whatever degree possible, as this game is very very loose preflop, usually 6+ people in the pot raised or not. So what i do is I play pretty slow preflop, only raising with the BEST of hands when the pots are multi-way and not in the last two seats. I also limp with all of the pocket pairs and small to medium suited connectors depending on position. I understand that I am sacrificing some pre flop equity but i found that in this loose spread limit game that the only way to minipulate the pot odds in your favor post flop was to keep the pot small pre-flop. I normally jam it on the flop with draws, and on the turn with made hands. Now because there is generally 10-18 in preflop and anyone wwith any kind of a hand will be priced in to the river, when betting max. So unless it is a dry board I always try to check raise a late position raiser or come out firing on the turn if it is a blank. I know that I am losing a little value out of some of my hands but I think it was worth it because using this strat my money lasted a lot longer when I was losing and builds just almost just as quick when i was winning. I understan that my play would be very predictable but these are some of the worst players out there and I am always show them when I pick up the a bunch of short handed pots with what i would consider automatic bluffing situations. This gives me an image of a bluffer and i will needle them just a little to make it stick. Although it was successful my sample was size was only about 20-30 hours of play. Let me know what you think. I probably forgot a couple of things but whatever.
