  1. You are right, and I probably should have mentioned that I play only live games a the casinos here. I prefer tournments, and now I'm disapointed when I don't make the final table. I've won a couple and finised in the cash a couple.I use the compuer game only to practice the math and card skills. Without spending a lot of money I've learned the difference between an A-8 in early position, and an A-8 on the button. It's easy to see, and fun if you like playing games. It's like shooting free throws in the gym for hours, it's not like a game, but it shre helps me.
  2. This will get a laught, but here is what I did.Bought a computer Hold'em poker game, and a book with reccomended starting hands. Play it until I now have to think about playing a marginal hand. Now that I'm comfortable with my preflop game (comfortable, not good yet), I'm playing free online games.I play both as if ut were real money, and make sure I play well. I treated it just like learning to shoot free throws. Practice, practice, practice.
  3. You can, but the number of sites that download Mac software is limited. I've found two. there are a couple that tell you that you require Windows simulation software.I have a G5, and with Windows simulater it will run just about anything that for Windows.
  4. I only play live games. Well, I do practice online, but never for real money. And the Bot tournament is already scheduled here in Vegas. I don't have all of the details, but there is enough money involved to attract some of the best programmers. And I believe that tournament play is going to become even more popular here. There is tremendous demand for them. There are daily tournaments at several casinos, and freeroll tournamens for club members after 50 hours of play in a month.Casinos are building new and larger poker rooms. Several have remove slot machines to make room for poker tables.
  5. I don' think so. Based on what I've seen in Las Vegas over the last 50 years, people are not going to stop gambling any time soon, and poker is a fun way to gamble. In the month of May this year, Nevada casinos "WON" $1 Billion. Most of that was from slot machines, and the fastest growing slot machine is the penny slot. Now if people are willing to pour houndreds of millions of dollars into slot machines, with virtually no chance of winning anything, I think a large percent of gambles will take the much better odds at the poker table. The tournaments, hype, and online games have taken poker out
  6. Poker is one of the few things I do where I have a lot of fun, and it doesn't always cost a lot of money.Even when losing, my hourly cost is insignificant compared to some of the other hobbies.
  7. Actually, parking the car, or bringing it back is easy. Running on that asphalt is a real bummer. My buddy lasted 3 days before he had to take a week off to recover. And at the Rio he averaged about $25-$28 bucks an hour. And if I'm driving my Bently, Rolls, or even Vett, $5, but I'm usually in my pickup, and that't only $1-$2.
  8. I've always thought that poker was a people/feelly type game, so I played Craps, since I understood the math, and people and their decisions didn't enter into the game.My son convinced me to try a live poker game, and I've been hooked ever since. And believe me, I certainly don't have a "feel" for it. I do ok with most players, but good players drive me crazy. So if you don't have both, stay with low limit, and have fun.
  9. Losing. So I try and avoid it.Snotty young people.
  10. Of course distance makes a big difference, but since I am only about 10 miles from the strip, and several local casinos, it's not a consideration.
  11. Vegas is a great place to live. We love it here. Your view on housing will depend on where you are coming from. The price of our very nice home in Dallas TX won't buy a carrage here, but people moving from Southern California are paying cash for nice homes in Summerlin.
  12. I don't play online for money, only play live. I play several local casinos. There are daily tournaments with $25 buy-in and +- $500 for first. Pretty good win rate. I consider Poker a people game, so I prefer to play with real people. Add the girls delivering drinks, and it's a great way to play poker. Live games are a great deal more social, and since I'm not trying to make a living doing this, it's much more fun.
  13. Actually, NL tournaments are the only game to play for fun and profit.
  14. I recommend the Santa Fe. Small room (10 tables) friendly staff etc.I also recommend a new casino, the Canenry. Graig Rd. and I-15. This is not even a room, they simply removed some slots, and put in some tables. But they are trying. All of the players are local, and a lot of them are dealers at the major casinos. I've also played at Texas Station, and Harrah's. Enjoyed both. If you are visiting here, give the locals a try. It's a short drive, and I think it's worth it.
  15. It's certainly not for me. Get much above 30-35 hands an hour and I'll be irritating others with my slow play. I've watched some online tables, and I presume that's why people get so irritated when someone takes awhile to make a decision.Live tournaments are about as fast as I want to play.
