Limping The Button/in High Blind Situations?

Recommended Posts

Hi,the basic mantra in all poker forums is: Never ever open limp. Especially dont limp if you are in a high blind situation cause winning the blinds preflop is so important. Daniel, how do you manage to openlimp and defend your BB in High blind situation profitbaly? Is this play based on your handreading skills and that you can outplay your opponents after the flop or is there math behind this? ANd why everybody says this is a big leak if you in fact can win like this?

It is backed my math and it also has to do with outplaying opponents post flop. The reason so many forum members think it's a bad play is because they are playing ONLINE. It's a different animal and post flop handing reading skills are diminished significantly.

i would like to understand how it works exactly. But i have just human handreadingskills, hope i can still learn something :club: Did you write an article about it?I am focused on Headsup poker btw and would LOVE to integrate limping in my game cause most people think its so fishy and become uncautious. If you are playing a bad player Headsup your profits will come from his willingness to put in a lot of money in out of position with ace-rag type of hands and stuff. But since better players dont do this mistake and simply fold to most Button raises i think you might force them to play you oop if you begin limping or minraising. And since the value of position increases with bigger stack sizes compared to the pot you should be in a good position. 3-bets are alot easyer to call also if you just minraised.I experimented a lot with this type of stuff but didnt get too good results till now. So PLEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAASE tell me how you do this.

what the hell are you talking about? take a breath. formulate answerable questions.my thoughts on open limping: the reason why most online players don't open limp is because most of the games we are playing are shorthanded. i think that there's definitely a time to open-limp in full ring, but the way people play online today your limps will get punished, and i can say with some degree of certainty that open-limping in 6-max or less is a pretty big no-no for the most part.the exception for me as far as open-limping shorthanded games goes is the push-pull games (omaha8 and to some extent badugi). back to the above quote: there are some people who do very well open limping the button (raptor comes to mind) and min-raising the button (i think maxV2 did this). when i played HU PLO my button min-raise was the strongest part of my game. but if you're going to play in the weird style you've got to have superior (read: SUPER SUPER sick hand reading abilities). when you make a standard raise you're opponents hands become easier to read, with open limps and min-raises it's tougher.don't min-raise because you want action on your big-hands or because you really want to steal a blind with a mediocre hand. if your going to do it (i only suggest it HU) make it a part of your overall gameplan and understand what you're hoping to accomplish for your overall image and the specific hand. i don't suggest open-limping the button in SH situations since in my experience only the sickest players do it profitably.these are just my ramblings. anyone feel free to correct me.and can mods move this to general theory?
