  1. Btw remember there are 2 separate cases: one playing dunces, the other playing intelligent players. Oh and also someone once told me there are 2 schools of playing AK: one ramming and jamming preflop getting heads up or 3 way and the other as a drawing hand in a multiway pot (esp if they are suited). Is there any truth to this statement?
  2. I had a thought recently (a rare occurrence) Reraising with AK preflop in NL cash games playing dunces online. Not necessarily a good idea, or am I being overly cautious? With AKs you hit a flop just under 50% of the time if I remember correctly (including good draws). So say you reraised a guy and you both have deep stacks left to bet after the flop. You miss. He checks to you. You bet 3/4 pot, he calls, now what? Sure, if one of you is short-stacked it's easy. That's almost always the case in tournaments, which, together with the fact that people play tighter in tournaments, makes
  3. I'm coming from a completlely atheist background here, but anyway, there is a point I'd like to raise which is tangentially related to this discussion:Is poker addiction necessarily the same as gambling addiction?I am sure that in some cases it is, but IMO it does not have to be the same.I don't have any experience of gambling addiction outside the context of poker, but I know what compulsive poker playing is (fortunately it's a winning addiction). Now before I started playing poker I was addicted to online chess for about a year, playing about as frequently as I have played online poker in t
  4. Cool. Multitabling NL cash games I've sometimes accidentally raised preflop (or even reraised) with trash and then had to find a way to bluff my waythrough cos the pot is so big. Good advertising when you get caught, if anyone is paying attention
  5. Well said. I think people do bluff more online though. I think Daniel Negreanu himself may have said it. It's much easier online as you don't have to worry about your poker face or anyone else criticising your play.Playing online you should bluff less and call a bit more than you would playing live.
  6. I can see why flops withJ/10/ragA/Q/ragA/K/ragK/Q/ragK/J/ragQ/10/ragQ/J/ragA/10/ragetc etc will see more full houses by the river because people play cards with two face cards (inc 10) a lot. But why K/4/rag, K/3/rag are more likely than eg K/6/rag to see boats I cannot see. It could be a statistical fluctuation or your imagination 8) Ditto for 9/4/ rag.
  7. I know how it feels The more you read / think about poker the more you realise there is to it and then it can get confusing. (Ignorance is bliss!)And then after beating the semi-advanced games you go back down to the crazy beginner games and find you can't win a thing.. Somebody once said that it's difficult to read beginners: if they don't know what they're doing how are you supposed to know? (not completely true: everyone will have patterns) .. whereas in more advanced games there is a certain logic to the plays. Remember that most of the stuff that you you read about /see on TV only
  8. How about raise it up to more than 1/4 of your stack, say 1/2 your stack? The way you did it the guy with 10 10 felt like he had some folding equity.Perhaps he felt you weren't pot commited. If you effectively set him all inthough he may have second thoughts about calling with 10 10.
  9. Well said wrto 8) that was essentially my point
  10. KK,I am sorry if my post sounded oversimplified or muddled. I am kind of new to poker forums. What I was saying was that if you agree with the widely held view that AK is a great hand because it so easy to let go of if you miss the flop (read eg the NL chapter in Supersystem), then passively chasing with it after the flop (the way that is often correct in limit) is a losing play in most cases. Yet you see it all the time online which is not really surprising since most players at these low stakes (up to 1/2NL) are pretty mediocre. There will be situations where you play AK in an unraised po
  11. Is it ever correct to chase with AK after the flop? I remember T J Cloutier saying it is a terrible play in no limit, yet you see people doing it all the time online. I mean say you limped with AK, unraised pot, you have overcards, someone bets, maybe it's only a tiny bet but I usually get out - I don't know if my outs are clean so even if I turn an ace or a king I won't be able to bet with much confidence. Or if you called a preflop raise with AK, you hit nothing, if the raiser bets calling just with overcards seems very suspect to me, yet you see it a lot. Raising is better there if you
  12. Here is a quote from a very nice site about online poker: www.godfreydanielspoker.com"Tip Two: Online tells: The most important tells in online poker revolve around betting speed. The easiest ones to pick up are the "dramatic pause" tells. A long pause followed by a bet usually means the player is strong, and wants you to think he is weak. A long pause followed by a check usually indicates a weak hand. This player either wants you to check so he can get a free card, or wants you to think he has a strong enough hand to "think" about betting. You'll rarely be check-raised by anyone who took a lo
