Exodustjs11 0
Well lately when I have been playing in tournaments ive been making alot of calls with A-k because of some crazy read or something that ive picked up which is this(note it only works from early position)You have A-k you raise min to 3x the BB and the person will reraise all in with any pair under queens, but queens and above there usually seems to be a 6x the bb reraise and so far ive been 100 percent accurate with the readIve been calling with A-k alot more to an all in pre and folding to a giant raise.I consider it playing to win poker, but is this the correct strategy to partially play to win?keep in mind its in tournament poker of only of course. jmbreslin 0
I won't even attempt to post a response about playing AK. Other posters will understand why...
Exodustjs11 0
Well what i meant to ask rather then it being advice on playing A-k is do you agree with the play im doing
Yahkin 0
A few things:3x is not a min raise. 6x reraise after a 3x open raise is a min raise.Nothing in poker is 100% accurate.Stack sizes, blinds, antes, reads, playing styles, etc. all factor into how you should play AK in this situation.Folding AK with 3-1 to call PF is not winning poker. A minraise of an EP raiser is not always a monster. They could be betting for information as well. (It can be right for AQs to raise in late position to define your hand.)If you always play it this way, it will not take long for an observant player to pick up on this and shove with AA or minraise with 72o. Zach6668 513
I'd recommend posting specific hands that you're questioning. This is maybe too general of a question to be answered correctly.

Gallo 1
Well lately when I have been playing in tournaments ive been making alot of calls with A-k because of some crazy read or something that ive picked up which is this(note it only works from early position)You have A-k you raise min to 3x the BB and the person will reraise all in with any pair under queens, but queens and above there usually seems to be a 6x the bb reraise and so far ive been 100 percent accurate with the readIve been calling with A-k alot more to an all in pre and folding to a giant raise.I consider it playing to win poker, but is this the correct strategy to partially play to win?keep in mind its in tournament poker of only of course.I think I understand what the OP is trying to say here. He's not saying that 3x BB is a minimum raise, he's saying after basically raising to 3xBB. That he will not raise any less than 3xBB.Anyway, onto what I think the OP is trying say. I think OP is trying to say that he is noticing a pattern in the way some people have started to play pairs, usually in lower buy-in SNGs. He is saying that the "betting pattern" is to push all in usually with pairs JJ and lower and that players with QQ and above usually re-raise the original 3xBB.If this is what OP is saying, than yes I agree that I have started to take notice of this pattern. It was like when the minimum raise first started, alot of people were like "What the f---?", then after sometime a high percentage of people started to make that play, raising minimum preflop. As for the pattern that the OP is mentioning, as I said I have noticed this and have pushed all in when I actually have a big pocket pair.
