Dictius 0
Hang on, explain what a Mississippi straddle is?
No_Neck 0
Putting more money in the pot from the best possible position has to be EV+ as long as you are a winning player.
David_Nicoson 1
Mississipi StraddleA Mississippi straddle buys last action before the flop. House rules permitting Mississippi straddles are common in the southern United States. Usually, a Mississippi straddle can be made from any position, although some house rules only permit the button or the player to the right of the button to place a Mississippi straddle. Like a live straddle, a Mississippi straddle must be at least the minimum raise. Action begins with the player to the left of the straddle. If, for example (in a game with $10-$25 blinds), the button puts a live $50 on it, the first player to act would be the small blind, followed by the big blind, and so on. If action gets back to the straddle with no raise, the straddle has the option of raising. The player to the right of a Mississippi straddle may re-straddle by placing a blind bet raising the original straddle.

krup24 0
well it takes some of the monotamy out of holdem thats for sureedit: voted meh btw and we don't have enough polls in this forum
Royal_Tour 0
seeing as how its not accepted at all casino's it has to be a +EV strategy type play.most casino's, even in vegas will not allow it. I can only imagine its because of the action it creates with positional advantage, which as we all know, hldem is a game of position
David_Nicoson 1
I think the house's interest in prohibiting it is that it's distinctly -EV for the players to the straddler's immediate left.

Acid_Knight 2
Acid straddles OOP, so he's clearly already one of Satan's minions.I do this sometimes, and you'd be surprised how much it helps your image. If they let you do the Mississippi straddle, and you're a winning player, I swear to God it's the best bet in the house. You have position on everyone, you make the pot bigger AND you get to see what every single player does preflop before you act. What more do you want?

David_Nicoson 1
I think stack depth is a big issue. That's why I specified it in the poll. It's obviously wrong at 2BB. We're just going all in blind. At 50BB, we're pricing ourselves out of any implied odds hands that we might want to play. Less so at 100BB, but we're potentially losing a street of betting to take advantage of our position. I think it's probably a mistake (setting aside image issues) until about 250BB. Acid_Knight 2
David,The fact is that many people play very poorly in these scenarios. They assume someone will raise and they limp with a big hand, or they are just afraid to raise in general. Unlike the UTG straddle where they can have position, they know they never will here. It's just such a great situation because most of the time, you get to see a cheap flop with 2 random cards. Sometimes you pick up a big hand and get a lot of action.Obviously stack size is a consideration, but I think that in general, this is a good play.
NoBBiR 0
I think the house's interest in prohibiting it is that it's distinctly -EV for the players to the straddler's immediate left.I think that Mississippi straddles help create bigger pots, and therefore more rake, so I don't understand why all Casinos do not allow it.Turningstone doesn't even allow you to straddle UTG. That place is so gay.
