The 2008-2009 season starts tonight. They just raised #17 to the rafters. I was too young to remember #16, so I've been waiting for that moment for pretty much my entire life. Hopefully they can ship #18 this season.

Don't see them being as dominant this season as last during the regular season, but a repeat is definitely not out of the question.

Okay, as I am now bored I'd like to observe some things.KG looks much the same as ever, I'm not too worried about his rebounding numbers, as due to the D we played it really becomes everybody boxing out and going for the rebound (rather than the oldschool everybody box out and KG flies in for the rebound).Rondo is really maturing and he is the difference maker on the floor when he's on. When he's the good, aggressive Rondo, the team is so much better it's amazing. However when he becomes the tentative, scared Rondo, the offense looks terrible. Just have to keep hoping he has more good days than bad.Pierce is in a bit of a shooting slump, but he's been deferring and I'm confident that his game will come back further on in the season as it is needed (he's already been absolutely clutch two or three times)Tony Allen has really stepped up off the bench and taken over a lot of the load from Posey's absence. He's really the one setting the tempo for the bench unit, which was sorely lacking in the game against Portland in particular.Kendrick Perkins is a beast. No question. I'd rate him as one of the best defensive C's in the league right now. If he could grow some balls and start taking the midrange shot that I know he has, it's going to open up a lot more of the court.Ray Allen is starting to look like Ray Allen instead of some poor man's Rip Hamilton. He's got his midrange game back into his arsenal, hitting three's at an awesome clip and really working on getting into the lane.Come on kids, we need this thread to catch up to the Lakers one :club:

Another big win against Washington today. KG looked hurt, that knee brace seemed huge, and was 3 assists away from a triple double (with 5 turnovers though). Paul finally seems to have gotten some touch back tonight, Ray Allen was hotter than the sun and everybody else contributed really well. Eddie House was money as usual and Tony seems to me to be back to his old pre-injury self, playing with far more intelligence too than he has in the past. Let's hope this streak can continue. It'll be interesting to see Posey back in town tomorrow.

I love Perkins soo much. He's basically the best fit for center we could hope for right now. He's one of the best three defensive C's in the league and his offense is improving with every game and he's a tough cover in the post when he gives himself enough time to set up and make a move. I still wish Rondo could shoot more, but I'll take 4 pts if he's getting 15 assists.

Well thankyou sir ;)Rajon is really coming around. His FT% over the last month has been 72% and his FG% is top-20 in the league (the only guard to do so). Man am I excited for this guy.

Rondo is a product of the team he is on, an example of being made better by elite players. I will be SHOCKED if in five years he's even of any relevance, unless he happens to be on another great team.

Now that's just selling him ridiculously short. I'm admittedly high on Rondo. I'm a homer. That's okay :)Like any most 22 year olds, he's going to be up and down. But a guy doesn't average 11/5/7.5 without being a good player in his own right. I'm not entirely sure what you mean by relevance, if you mean all-star games or ridiculously crazy numbers, then perhaps you are right. And like any player, he's made better by the players around him. However Boston is noticeably better with him on the court than off it. To the tune of 9.8 points per 100 possessions. He has had one of the highest PERs on the time over the last month and is absolutely what makes this team tick right now. He has all the tools necessary to become a great player. His only real knock on him right now is his poor shooting touch, but like I said, his FT% has gone up 9% this month compared to the rest of the season and when he's working with a guy like Ray Allen, his stroke and confidence can only improve (which they have, even across this season). He hits a high number of buzzer/shotclock beaters and I think he's actually one of those players that shoot at their best when they have less time to think and just let things flow naturally. He has learnt a lot from the finals against Kobe's sagging help D and I think it's going to be much harder to guard off him in the future as he truly realizes his potential. In last nights game, for example, he shot 9-9 in the 3rd quarter, and got 4 layups consecutive possessions (from memory). I think on a non-championship contender Rondo wouldn't be as effective as when he has three perennial all-stars to pass to and draw attention from, but that's true of anyone. For the Celtics, there's only around 4 PGs I'd rather have leading my team.

I'm a Celtic hater obviously, so he probably falls somewhere in between.Good points. I'll be interested to see what happens to him after this Celtic run is done.
Yeah. The media has hyped him up a lot recently in some corners with the all-star game coming up. I agree though, I think it will be very interesting to see how he turns out by the team he's 27-ish.

If our entire second unit died in a plane crash right now, I have to admit that I wouldn't be too sad.
Second unit wasn't really the problem.Ray Allen picked some bad spots to force plays with both units and sometimes House wasn't running the offense through the right people, but they played with effort. Rivers needs to clean up rotations a bit.

Calderon, D-Williams, Nash, Paul?I dunno...for winning championships I think Bibby, Billups and even Fisher/Kidd would do just fine.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3804977How do the Celtics Fanbase feel about this?
Coming full circle with KG, hmmm... this is funny. On first blush, I think it's a bad idea, but upon further review1) He would be a bench player, not a vital starting player. He could provide a good spark off the bench.2) If any team is impervious to head case trouble makers, it would be this team. it would be different if this was last year, and they were still gelling. But this celtics team is so very professional, that I don't think even a potential cancer like starbury could hurt them.3. If he becomes trouble, they can just cut him.4. Contract year.

This...I'd love to see KG shoot it down somehow as payback for the shit he caused in MN, I really don't see how he helps this team at all. Didn't want to build a team with me there but wanna ride my coattails to a ring... gtfo.

Starbury is alot of things, many of them not good at all for your team. But he's not physically done, he still has talent, and can still provide a scoring spark. I think Star's only value these days would be on an excellent team to provide bench depth. If you're counting on Star as a major piece of your puzzle, your team's got problems. That said, it would be hilarious if KG gave him the high hat... but I don't know if that will be as hilarious as Starbury having to eat KG's alpha dog shit day in day out. Either way, it would be funny.
