I kind of agree with you Steve. Even Brazil (well, mostly Neymar) has become this flopping/diving crap.

Uruguay seems to be ok, though Suarez has issues with not spitting on people.

France is always my rooting interest because we have family there and long ago they had 2 Armenians on their team, and I was rooting for them, and they won it all.

Since then its been pretty dry.

Also, have a soft spot for Uruguay, cause they were the first country to recognize the Armenian Genocide.

Ya, if you didnt know by now, I choose my sports teams in the strangest of ways. Go Whalers!

I find this very disturbing. Can’t tell the difference? It was the Korean team   https://www.sbnation.com/platform/amp/soccer/2018/6/18/17474438/south-korea-sweden-world-cup-trick-jersey-numbers

A whole lot of people in this world could learn a thing or two from the Japanese team.

I love the world cup. The timing of the games is going to make it really difficult to watch much this year though.

Saw that. Great to see a team having respect for themselves, the game and other people

Instead of flopping around like you have been shot when someone breaths on you. I hate the win at all costs mentality. I bet Maradona has never lost a second of sleep after he deliberatly used a hand to score a crucial World Cup Goal. The end justifies the means

South American countries are the masters at embellishment but its a problem all over the world. I used to love to watching Arjen Robben (Netherlands), until he started diving every chance he got to draw a penalty.

agree with a lot of what you said John, but Im not sure south americans are the masters of embellishment. If I recall correctly, the Brazilians were never like this, or never like what Neymar does. Even Mexico seems a little crude with this stuff, especially when you watch their club teams play.

The one country that really dissapointed me in my lifetime was Italy. Their Serie A and then in turn their national team became divers and soft play, and in time, it hurt their ability to win on the international stage. When I used to watch a lot (10-15yrs ago), Serie A became more and more about dives and Premiership was strong, hard play. I honestly dont watch either that much anymore, but I imagine its still similar.

All that said, Japan's team is first class. The pics of the way the room looked, the way they conducted themselves. ALL CLASS!

You are right about Brazil. Neymar's antics have overshadowed there history. I watch a lot of South American qualifying because I have family from Peru.

Peru, Argentina, Colombia and Paraguay are atrocious

I agree with your comment about Italy. They are certainly at that level

I thought I read a quote from the Japanese coach that said during friendlies this year against European teams, they had put players in the “wrong” jerseys at times to hurt th other teams scouting, since Europeans tend to have difficulty telling Asians apart. I think that is hilarious gamesmanship and I am all for it.

I know a lot of people say there is no difference between Asian cultures etc. I will say that yes there is. This can be borderline racism

Oh it’s very racist I’d say, but he was talking about his own team! I mean, an Asian team would likely look more similar than a European team just based on superficial stuff (skin colour, hair colour), but obviously Asian people don’t have any difficulty telling each other apart

You have no clue

Clue of what?

Who is the racist one in your comprehension of this story? I'm thoughouly confused by your anger here. Danny pointed out a story. Are you upset because he thought it was the Japanese team and not the Korean team? I sure hope not because that's dumb.

I'm obv a soccer newb, but watching every Brazil game quite closely this year, I see what people are saying about Neymar rolling around and shit, but still like 100% of the time it's because he got legitimately fouled. He's not diving, exactly, but I can see the embellishing label making sense.

That guy barely touched his ankle when he was down. I'm not saying the guy shouldn't get a foul for faking like he was going to crush his ankle but my god the overacting was gold tier level from Neymar. Plus the one that stated the rolling gif, you can tell he's totally making himself roll obnoxiously. He's too good for these petty antics.

At least he cut that stupid blonde puff ball off his head.

You have no clue

Can you elaborate?

Not sure if I offended, but it was unintentional if so. I’ve barely watched it so didn’t realize Japan and Korea were in the tournament.

I'm also curious if your issue is with the story itself, the fact Danny found it funny, or the fact that he misremembered which country the story was about?

I know Danny had no ill intent.

I’m an idiot. We are up in Bay Area mini vacation. I get up 6:30 am. I get some breakfast at the hotel.

I place my usual $20 soccer bet online

I’m back to room looking for soccer game. The hotel has one of the most extensive packages available that I have ever stayed at. Like 900 direct tv channels. No game. Then I realize it’s tomorrow. FML

We are goin to Giants game tonight. First time at AT and T park. Should be fun.

Really enjoyed the first half. Yes, Im rooting for Belgium but would love Brazil to score a couple of goals and turn the game into a WC classic

Im going to date myself but the best WC match I ever saw was Brazil Italy in 1982

Brazil was chasing Italy the whole game and Italy was countering beautifully

Final was Italy 3 Brazil 2
