do you think that next year they might have the final table live on TV??? I heard this from a friend of a friend story.
I very, very, very, very, very highly doubt it.

You'd be talking a 8 hour marathon with alot of dull tv and downtime for breaks that would need alot more fillins than a few commercials. My guess is ESPN likes it as it is...

it would be awesome for the hardcore poker watchers, but yeah, i as well doubt that espn would committ to that kind of length of program with no real idea for how long it will go. with most sporting events, you know you're probably gonna get 2 1/2 - 3 solid hours of tv scheduling. with poker, you could get an hour if there's a ton of action, or you could get 9 hours with 4 of it being heads-up. its just too unpredictable. that said, i would LOVE to see a webcast of it or something. i'd pay for that for sure.

Save your money. They can't, for what I would assume to be obvious reasons.Think about it...................if they showed it live, they would have to remove the holecard cameras. Which would make it less watchable for the average viewer.

They are definitely gonna do it. It's gonna be on The Ocho, ESPN 8. I'll bet anyone who will stake me if they doubt this info. You've been CONDITIONED.

This is what the ESPN Execs should do.1. Have the event scheduled so the Main Event falls in a slow time slot2. Broadcast the event live in that traditionally slow time slot3. Produce the sh!t out of it4. Rebroadcast the event for the masses with all the production bells and whistles5. Add cheerleaders called the "Railbirds"6. Get John Madden to be a colour guy so he can yell "BOOM" when someone busts7. ESPN can count thier money.JMOKK

They could if they used delay like they do most live tv after the janet jackson ordeal. i personally would love to study how the pros play every hand and not just the hands the producers opt for us to see so they can squeeze it into the tv timeframe. Im sure a lot of it would be boring, but would be worth the price of admission IMHO.

So I guess Fox Sports Net messed up when they showed last years final table live (it was The American Poker Championship Live From the Turning Stone Resort and Casino on July 14, 2004)? D'agostino VS. Ivey for the final....I doubt ESPN will show it live for other reasons though. Can't get those wonderful Norman Chad ex-wife jokes in real-time is my reasoning they won't go live with it.

There is no way that they will put the main event on live unless it is some sort of pay-per-view deal.......i would probably pay to see the live action roll through hand by hand, that would give us more of a feel of what it is really like.

You have this annoying habit of beating me to the punchline.

You wouldn't be allowed to see their hole cards because it's live. Someone could just wear headphones and have someone telling them the other person's cards over the radio. :-)
they could put the table and players in a sound proof glass box. and pipe fresh air to them. strip them naked so no one can cheat....

Headphones not allowed at TV final tables. Could use hand signals, or cough signals, I guess.

Wouldn't that require the WSOP to be on the spice channel then?

The Turning Stone tourney was on a five minute delay, with the announcers and technical crew (only ones who could view the hole cams) sequestered in a sealed off area across the hall from the action. In addition, no cell phones or communication devices of any kind were permitted in the tournament hall during play.

Read my above post again...it's been done. FSN did it last year. and it's simple to do, you set the tape delay as is standard practice and then don't allow anyone to enter the studio/tourny room durring a hand.

Even a delay would not work, as it would give insight as to how a player is playing during a tournament, before it was over. Having your stradegy broadcast, even with a 30 minute delay for example, would not be looked upon favorably by the players.Think before you write..........I'm assuming you've played in a tournament before??

Yeah, I wouldn't want my opponents to know one single hand I had played, and how I did so, without me being the one to show them. Even with a delay, there is a chance that sort of information could be relayed to your opponents in some fashion. The only way to avoid that would be to copy the Turning Stone production, and keep everyone isolated in a room. It was great for people that are true students of the game, but ESPN does not want that sort of bland/sterile atmosphere for their final table.

I would pay for a little live action. It's better than surfing back and forth between Cardplayer and Pokerwire to get updates.
