bad play or just bad beats?

Recommended Posts

Hello, first time posting to strategy. Anyway, I was in a $30 SnG on Party and the following sequence came up. I was shortstacked after my QQ lost a coinflip to AK:Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t50 (6 handed) converterButton (t1500)Hero (t665)BB =#A500AF(Villain)/ (t2660)UTG (t1125)MP (t725)CO (t1325)Preflop: Hero is SB with 3h, Ah. I called the BB and then he went way over the top all-in. He had been playing aggressive the whole time and I needed to double up so I called.Flop: (t75) 8d, 7h, 3s (6 players)Turn: (t75) Kd (6 players)River: (t75) Tc (6 players)Final Pot: t75Main Pot: t75 (t75), between Button, Hero, Villain, UTG, MP and CO.Results in white below: CO doesn't show. Button doesn't show. Hero has 3h Ah (one pair, threes). Villain has Ac Jc (high card, ace). UTG doesn't show. MP doesn't show. Outcome: Hero wins t75. Turns out he had a hand and I sucked out on him. Hey, it's PartyPoker. Needless to say he wasn't too happy and was cursing me out in the chat. This was the very next hand:Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t50 (6 handed) converterCO (t1500)Hero (t1330)SB =#A500AF(Villain)/ (t1995)BB (t1125)UTG (t725)MP (t1325)Preflop: Hero is Button with As, 9d. It was folded to me and I raised to 150. The same guy goes all-in over the top and the BB folds. I seriously thought he was tilting and I had a decent hand so I called.Flop: (t75) Qh, 9h, 4h (6 players)Turn: (t75) 7c (6 players)River: (t75) 3c (6 players)Final Pot: t75Main Pot: t75 (t75), between CO, Hero, Villain, BB, UTG and MP.Results in white below: CO doesn't show. Hero has As 9d (one pair, nines). Villain has Ks Ah (high card, ace). BB doesn't show. UTG doesn't show. MP doesn't show. Outcome: Hero wins t75. He had me dominated two hands in a row and I sucked out on him twice. He then procedes to go all-in with J-10 and loses to AA. I go on to win the tourney. Did I play those 2 hands OK? I won't complain about the $150, but that's the luckiest I've ever been on-line.

First off, I see the bison converter is still having issues with pot sizes and all-ins......Anyway, I think you overplayed both hands. While you are the shortstack at the table you have something around 12 big blinds so you're not quite in desperation mode yet. If you get a good pair or a good ace, it's ok to push but you don't have to push with any two reasonable cards. If you're willing to try and double up in the first hand you should have raised a good amount if not all-in. Calling an all-in is horrible here as there no hands you're a significant favorite (nearly coinflip vs. something like KQ or similar) and there are a ton of hands you are a big dog to, any better A, any pocket pair other than 2's. etc.In the second hand I also think you should have folded. You now have a very healthy chipstack and unless he's tilting REALLY badly, there are once again few hands you are more than a small favorite over and even more that you are a significant underdog to.Zara

On the first hand, I probably push with A3s in that position since you said that the BB was aggressive. I don't like the limp as that invites his all-in reraise.Call is marginal but you're in last place, so ok.On the 2nd one, a 3xBB raise seems fine from the button. Now the fact that he could be "tilting" favors your call of his all-in raise. Otherwise, I would fold it due to the fact that A rag is a hand that gets dominated.A lot of folks on-line can fake the "tilt" however and use that to their advantage to get other players to call with marginal hands.
