KidKanuck 0
I don't have any knowlege of this player other than the interview I just read(and I would love to hear more if anybody has anything to add), but I have to say if his exploits are true and he actually did donate over 2 million dollars of his winnings last year to childrens charities....what a class act.It seems such a shame that I know more about Mike Matusow and Phil H. due to press coverage than this man. The funny thing is I understand he plays in some pretty huge cash games regularly so I'm sure there would be no shortage of interesting stories to cover....not to mention his tournement successes....the sick and twisted priorities of the beloved mass media....just my opinionKK
keith crime 8
here's what i always wonder about this guyIf he spends 50 grand a year in entrance fees and wins 300 grand does he donate 250 or 300plus harsh of me to say - it's nice that he donates and all but if i were worth as much as france i'd be pretty generous too
Spidurman 0
The short version is that anytime he wins a tournament, he gives the prize to a charity of his choosing. Generally it is a children-focused organization.

Bravo20 0
He is one of the founders of Symantec corp. One of the largest software co. in the world so he is a multi millionare. The Money is secondary to him but he is a class act.

The Money is secondary to him but he is a class act.I'm not sure that is accurate. From what I understand he worked for Symantec for a period of time but was not a founder. I think he made the majority of his money from poker...but I could be wrong.
wellsie316 0
i believe that is correct. I think he used to work for them as a programmer or something, but was never a founder or anything like that.
RtherBNvegas 0
Yes. Definately not a founder But ya hell of a guy. Donates all his winnings from tournaments. Id imagine he prolly take out the buy-in fee though Were you the founder of a software company? Not really. I had my own (one-person) software company when I was in my teens and twenties, but I didn’t make much money from it. In 1985, I was one of the initial employees at a start-up company that became known as Symantec. But you made lots of money at Symantec which enabled you to finance your poker career, right? My salary at Symantec was far less than I could have made playing poker at that time. But my years at Symantec were very fulfilling since I was able to do something productive. Also, during my time as a programmer it was easier for me to help my children become more computer literate.:
Bravo20 0
All i'm going by is an interview I saw him do where he said that to get his kids back he had to have a real job so he got with some friends and started a company that later became known as Symantec... that led me to believe he was a founder but who knows, anyway he seems to be a really classy guy with on and off table actions unlike helmuth and others, he sets a great example huh? Â Generally it is a children-focused organization.Just to clarify, to my knowledge, Barry actually donates his winnings from tournaments, no matter where he places in the money. Even if he finishes 5th, or 6th, etc, he still donates the money. Great poker player and a true class act.
KidKanuck 0
it's nice that he donates and all but if i were worth as much as france i'd be pretty generous too...I'd like to think I would be generous as well, but as we all know there are far too few "worth as much as France" people who concern themselves with bettering the lives of others...rather they tend to concern themselves with getting more.I don't want to sound like an Oprah fan club chartered member(strike me down if I do)...but it does put a smile on my face when I hear stories of selfless acts of kindness....and now back to Poker and trying to take everyones last dime  Thanks everyone for the info...I went and checked his website and there was some interesting stuff.Best of luck in the New Year!KK
Mandelbrot 0
Kind of hard to take a pot from him knowing that. It's like stealing food from a needy child's mouth. He's brilliant!

Does anyone remember when he was heads up with Randy Jensen in a WPT event and Randy made some rude remark about the starving kids. I can't remember it exactly. If anyone can, please post.
