In an average home game, one of the weaker players went allin with A8. he was called by another player with A2. the board was A236 the river was a 3. to make the player with a8 win the hand. the winner then annouced split pot and started chopping it. I then yelled, you dumb **** you win and the person with A2 got rly mad at me saying "he annouced split so its split.. your not even in hand you cant say ****"is it bad for me to say this?

Short Answer. No.Obv, the player that thought it was a split is wrong. Both player has Aces and treys, the guy with the 8 kicker wins the pot. You're by no means outside the boundaries to point out that it's not a split pot.

You did the right thing. People with that amount of intellegence should be banned from playing poker. The guy who called with A2 should be shot. You can say what you like when it's not your hand, especially after decisions have been made.

Maybe I'm a wimp, but in my opinion there is no fun in taking fishes money if they don't even know the rules of the game. It doesn't matter what the A8 guy thinks the outcome of the hand is, the rules are the rules - it is only fair to point out he actually wins the hand. Even moreso if this is a halfway friendly game - the A2 guy (who sounds like a jerk anyway) should be ashamed of himself for trying to take the split as he obviously noticed he was beat. And after complaining to you he should have been kicked out of the game, as I see it such behaviour is borderline cheating.I say: Well done!

No it is still fun taking a fishes money but I couldn't agree more with the rest of your post. We've actually encountered a few similar situations in my college game. In the first incident, the guy actually got up and left out of frustration when he actually had the winning hand. We didn't tell him because of his reaction (not to mention he was already out the door). The second situation, I informed the guy that thought he lost that it was actually a split pot. I was not involved in either pot but my feelings are that unless one player mucks, the cards should play themselves.

Why would you not help somebody out and point out what is correct? I agree, if the cards aren't mucked, the cards should play themselves and if somebody needs to intervene, then so be it. I wouldn't want to win a pot I didn't 'win'.

Contrary to what most people think, you dont have to know what you have in order to be awarded the pot. At a casino, all you have to do is turn your cards over and the dealer will tell you whether or not you have won. This is most common when I play Omaha 8/b, and people dont know whether or not they have anything, but applies to all tables as well. In a home game, since there is no dealer usually, I would assume that everyone should do their part to point out the winner. Furthermore, for the guy who said that you couldn't say anything because you weren't in the hand, that is irrelevant, especially if it is a tournament. In a tournament, the outcome of each hand effects all of the players at the table. Tell the A2 guy to calm down and stop being such a donk.

In a tournament (when someone goes all in and the cards are turned over) it doesn't matter what is verbally declared by any player at the table - the cards speak. In this specific case, you did nothing wrong - once the cards are turned up, everyone at the table has the opportunity to point out the winner (it happens relatively often in casinos where a dealer will miss a split, but a player not involved will mention it).

2-4 limit at a casino. the board read 33933. I turned over 88, another guy had 77, and a third player had Jx. while we were discussing the hand the dealer was chopping the pot 3 ways. if you don't know what you have, the dealer may not always save you.

In home games, "cards speak" is the general rule. While I can understand why the loser would getpissed, the call by the winner was incorrect and should be rectified.
Why is everything about sex with you?

There is nothing unethical about pointing out the CORRECT situation. People at my local cardroom do it all the time as the dealers often misread a board resulting in a chop, or where a kicker comes into play. Here's a question about what is unethical or not...Tuesday night I'm playing in my regular 1/2NL game. In the seat I got I noticed late in the game that the dealer was shuffling in a way that I could always see the bottom card before he made the final cut. The dealer cuts very deep, so on one hand I noticed that the Ace of clubs was the bottom card, and it looked like he cut it down to about the bottom 1/4 of the deck. I figured that Ace would probably be due at about the point of the flop. Low and behold, the Ace of clubs is the 1st card out on the flop. Not that it did me any good as I had a crappy hand, but I was definitely privy to some useful info. Even if he had cut the deck very high, I still would have known that that card would not be playing at all, which gives me an advantage.Anyway, at the other place I play we have a dealer who does this as well. It's not that hard to see the bottom card befor the cut.So my question is this... Is it unethical for me to not say anything to these dealers?

Yes, because you know have info about the cards that the other players do not have.
