I am leaving for London on Friday for the next 6 weeks and am looking to play poker while there. First, I will be staying right in the heart of London, and I know that there are a few casinos in that area.Second, I also understand that there is a 24 hour registration requirement. What I am curious about is the number of games, the size, the buy-ins, etc.Anyone who has played in London who could help me out, it would be much appreciated. Thanks! The Stein

I actually play a good deal of PLO, so that's not too bad.

I just got back from London - I played the casino in the Millenium Hotel (right by Gloucester Street subway station) -- not sure the casino name but it's run by Grosvenor that has a chain of them. There was no poker room. Just 5 roulette tables, 5 black tables, and a caribbean stud and 3-card poker (played against the house). Also some slot machine-type roulette games, and a bar.I doubled up about 60 pounds at a 6-deck shoe blackjack table and left; thought that was as good as it would get. Nice touch is no tipping is allowed.Membership is free, and there is a 24 hour waiting period. A year ago I registered on a whim since I thought I'd bring some business associates back to have some drinks and gamble. Never did on that business trip; but this trip I had a pocket of time to kill and popped in and my name was still in the system. So no waiting period.I honestly don't know about poker rooms in London. I assume not. But many cabs do have ads on them for online poker sites (UltimateBet.com, I think).

2 places you can play.1 Victoria Grovesnor Casino, edgware roadi dont have the web site but u can google. Here you will find PLH and PLO.The smallest game they have is 50 buy in($100)...be warned you will find some of the best players in europe here so stay away from the PLO unless you are looking for a lesson. This is where people like devil fish used to play.....atmosphere is mot very friendly...butthe standard of play is superb2 The Gut shot [url]http://www.gutshot.com/this is a smaller club with daily cash games and tournaments.. cash games are 25 and upwards PLH and the tournaments start at 5 rebuy.more of a younger crowd here..and the standard of play is.... well lets just say its not as good as at the victoria.1 word of caution tho....nearly all the players you will play against in london are "poker players". and for the most part know what they are doing...........this isnt vegas and you will not find the drunk vegas touriststhat i dream of meeting one day..oh and good luck

The Gut Shot is a good bet. It's a members club and not a casino so you can register and play straight away. The focus there is on a friendly atmosphere, so you'll find it very welcoming.Definately a very young crowd.Avoid Tuesday nights before 10/11pm; they have a 5 rebuy tournament for beginners that starts @ 8 and it always gets sold out, becoming organised chaos.Whilst playing 120 'beginners' sounds like +EV, the stacks start @ 500 with initial blinds at 25/25 and 20 minute levels.. ie crapshoot

Gee, I'm glad you know so much about British culture Smash. I'm not sure where I'd go for a shirt with "Zedanne" though? Im assuming you mean the legendary French attacking midfielder Zinedine Zidane who currently plays for Real Madrid. I'm thinking you don't realise that Rooney is one of the more disliked English footballers, and Zidane is actually well loved in England. We have a great respect for the legends of our sports, it seems you share that respect for him.

Oi!I cashed for the grand sum of 12 in THIS VERY WEEK's 5 crapshoot I mean serious examination of poker skills.Seriously, there are usually 20 beginners, 50 people who know how to play but don't want to play big, and 50 good, experienced players who think they have a good chance at turning their 5 into 850.

Smash was making a jopke, but which Britain do you live in where a French footballer is more highly regarded than the most talented English footballer we have? Oh you're a Geordie. Nevermind then.

I don't live in London so I don't play that regularly but I've been a few times and it's definitely a good first-time live outing.Bear in mind my first time live was at The Vic, where I played precisely one hand of PLH before going broke for 100 when my Aces were cracked by a set of 6s on a rag board!Check out www.gutshot.com to get a feel for the placeTuesdays finish late - 130 runners, with usually about 300 re-buys and 100 top-ups, so plenty of chips in play... they also do a 5 turbo on Mondays that starts at 5.30 or something that would be a quicker start.
