In case any of you missed it, the Cigar Lovers defaulted on the last week of the season because their player, noneck, was hospitalized, while the rest of the team was on vacation. This default knocked them out of the playoff race, but did not appear to affect any other teams. I believe that in THIS CASE ONLY, the default should be forgiven and they should be treated like the teams without a default. They were definitely an active part of this league and would never have defaulted under normal circumstances. Also, this league would not be the same without Balloon Guy.I am creating this poll to see if the majority of the league agrees with me. I hope that Sleuthis will consider these results when deciding whether to enforce the rules in this extreme case.

I can tell you this much - ANY team which defaulted will not be part of the freeroll. As for next season - daniel and I will discuss any of the teams preceeding the next season.

I'm sorry but I disagree and I think it's kind of sad they can't play the freeroll. It's obvious this was a special case, and I think being in the HOSPITAL is a good reason to miss a HU match. They are good guys, and I don't think any of the other freeroll teams would be willing to openly say they don't think the Cigar Lovers should be able to play.

Agreed...it totally sucks and seems unfair. How can you fault a guy for getting mugged!?However, you can't logistically run a league without quantifiable rules. If you let this slide and let Sleuthis or Daniel decide what is excusable and what isn't then where do we draw the line? Somebody's wife having a baby...that's pretty important right?Or how about the death of a pet? Many pet lovers would rather lose their arm than lose their dog.I feel bad for No Neck and the crew but at the same time I think that giving them a pardon opens the door to a lot of other problems down the road (re: flat out lying). The truth of the matter is they had no back-up so they got no back-up.

That's pretty much the reason why the rules are in place and enforced the way they are. Who's to stop someone from lying and coming up with some BS excuse in order to avoid getting a default? I'm not saying anyone would do this or has done this, but by allowing special exceptions, it opens the possibility of something like this occurring.

Come on, there is no need to be robots about the rules. Do you honestly think people are going to start making up tragic events for why they missed a game? I don't. The argument well if we allow this, what's next? is absurd to me. It's not that hard to make decision on a case by case basis, and in my opinion, this is a default that should be forgiven.

I would like to forgive it in this case, but if we do it now, are we going to take away Broccoli's default when their one and only player apparently had a family emergency? I just think that we have to enforce it no matter what, and I think it is up to the opponent the team is facing as to whether or not they are willing to reschedule.

That's kind of a naive point of view. The fact of the matter is when money is on the line, people will sometimes lie, cheat and steal in order to get it. Maybe you haven't personally experienced this, but I know of people who have cheated in bigger games and people who have cheated playing $5 buyin home game tournaments. People will do things out of their normal character sometimes when there is money on the line. Obviously I'm not saying anyone would do this, but when you allow special exceptions, it opens up the possibility of someone doing this and screws up the integrity of this League.

I will agree with this statement if you can come up with one reasonable scenario where a team could cheat because Daniel and Sleuthis allowied the cigar lovers into the freeroll

Another team can just lie about their reason for defaulting if it becomes allowed under certain situations without penalty or a lesser one. Who's to judge whether that particular team is lying or not when a team blames an emergency for missing a game? Teams which default will just point to Cigar Lovers being given a special exemption and reason that they should be given the same treatment.

Meh, I don't really feel like arguing about this anymore. You are right in a sense that this could happen, my thoughts have always been that this won't happen. It's still up to Sleuthis and Daniel and they have to run the league, so they can do what they please.

I just got off the ship and am still in Barcelona. Yea the end sucked, but I am not one to ask for special treatment. I am cool with taking my chances the normal way for next season. Either way I am sure the secret tapes will continue to come to me and jayboogie will be wearing a dress again. And Grinder will never suffer from the secret tapes. just saying. HOWEVER, The rules clearly state that the home team is to make the game 30 minutes before the match, and give the opposing team 30 minutes to show. Rhinestone didn´t show up until 29 minutes AFTER the schedualed start time, which means he was the one that broke the rules first. Had No_Neck showed up on time and had no game or sign of rhinestone, then he would have won the default.Instead No_Neck was fighting for his life, after a vicious beating by a gang of possible terrorist. No_Neck knew that this game wass important, but he also knows that unless someone stands up to these terrorist, then the American way of life will go away like foxwood pro´s chances of making bail after his DUI accident with the patrol car.I am all for the rules, but I will not stand here and let you people bad mouth the United States of America.Gentlemen! So give us our freeroll and say yes to truth, justice, and more secret tapes!

Ya, but we're not talking about them getting a make-up match and a chance to get into the playoffs, we're talking about entrance into a post season freeroll for the teams that didn't make the playoffs. What the Hell is the prize in the freeroll that would make it so consequential that people would begin to lie, cheat and steal and make up tragic events as excuses?Who, my friend, is being naive?

I have organized many golf and poker events and people who I thought would never lie and cheat have made a fool out of me. The first time I thought it was an isolated incident and I sounded just like you GrinderMJ. I KNOW you've got to be young to even ask this question.A so called "friend" of mine was caught cheating in a game where you couldn't possibly lose more than $50...50 crummy dollars!!!So my answer is YES...people will lie and cheat. Outside of some of you high rollers out there this cash can mean a lot and the freeroll comes with a $500 value prize. That isn't a peanut.GrinderMJ, your heart is in the right place but Sleuth is just following the cruel truth about sports. It's not easy being the commish.

I thought it was just getting a spot, we still have to pay. If it´s really a true freeroll for next year than I will get a lawyer. Anyone know Andy Bloch´s number?

OK, sorry that there was a mugging. Yes its an unfortunate and brutal situation and I sympathise with it.The rules are what they are and at what point is the line drawn? These types of situations are also the reasons we have several players on teams.I dont enjoy being the hardass, but I do know from experience that the rules are to be adheared to, otherwise the league eventually breaks down.same as someone not showing up within 30 minutes. They show up 1 minute late - is that ok?If 1 minute is then 2 minutes should be ok too right?of course 3 minutes is only 1 minute more than 2 so thats ok too.....etc etcThere were others who made games or had team mates make games despite various situations - (a recall someone attending a funeral this season)
