Sunglasses At The Table...

Recommended Posts

I know there's been a million discussions about whether or not players should be allowed them or not, but my question goes beyond that. For those of you that wear sunglasses at the table, what kind do you wear? I suppose the perfect sunglasses for poker would be like a one way mirror, they can't see in, but you can see as if you had to shades on at all

The only time I wear sunglasses at the table is when I wear my prescription sunglasses while I'm driving. I don't really need the glasses to see, but if I've been wearing them for a while, it's annoying to adjust to slightly imperfect vision. Mine are pretty light, though, so it's easier to see with them on while inside.

The wrap sunglasses seem to be popular at tables. I was in Vegas for the first time this past January and played in the Venetian card room. It seems the tournament players were more into the glasses than the cash game players. Most of the sunglasses were wraps. I would not suggest mirrored ANYTHING as you can catch glimpses of peoples cards reflected in them. I even caught a suit and some paint watching a guy look at his hole cards at the 1/2 NL game I was sitting in.I don't wear them. I am such a circus of tells (nervous hands, flush faced when I lie, flush faced when I am strong, twitches, facial ticks, itchiness) that people pretty much give up on what i DO and spend more time on what I SAY. THAT, on the other hand, I have VERY good control over and can move people a little off center with conversation and comment. I spent a lot of time in debate circles and on stage in HS and College - things that I NEVER would have thought would serve me well but have.Once in a moment of weakness, I toyed with the idea of getting the Oakleys with the ear buttons for the iPod but didn't want to spend the $$$Cheers!!

I wear sunglasses to the table, but when I enter a pot I usually take them off and stare at the board or away from the table, depending on my cards. Nothing is more intimidating than a guy who wears sunglasses inside for no apparent reason

I love the fact that so many new players have no clue as to why you can/should wear sunglasses while playing poker.

I have the biggest eye tells in the world. 99% of poker players can't read a tell anyway. Betting is the real tell at smaller limits.I don't wear them. Doesn't mean I never will; I just never have.

What i like to do at a new game if i know some of the players are good and do try and read tells is, wear my glasses, but on the top of my head. Then over the first few orbits mention quietly i don't like wearing them but they help me hit my draws, so they take from that when i'm wearing my glasses that i'm drawing. Trick is, you have a monster already and let them try and bet you off when your "draw" misses, or if you aren't drawing or bluffing, if the "draw" hits it's easy to get them off. They don't catch on for a while though, unless you show down a monster. Then it's poker :DOther than that i don't wear sunglasses at the table, i'm confident enough in my ability to not tell or hide tells that wearing them would hurt my ability to give off counter tells.

Obviously they can hide any tells you may give away ... but that's not the reason I wear them as I have a very good "poker face". Imo, the best reason to wear them is that no one can tell when you are looking at them .... its very easy to appear to be looking one way while actually looking another. If you're into studying players you'll be able to do it a lot easier with glasses on. People will also study you less as it is a natural reaction to look away, especially when they think you might be looking back at them.As far as "mirror" goes .... not too bright to give a refelection of cards .... just enough to hide your eyes.
