  1. Oh Lookee... it's back up again. I was running ping plotter and as soon as it came back up, the last few hops looked like this: 14 86 ms 78 ms 85 ms pos6-0.gw6.mia4.alter.net [152.63.82.125] 15 83 ms 80 ms 79 ms cablebahamas-gw.customer.alter.net [157.130.76.58] 16 87 ms 91 ms 87 ms 24.244.158.13 17 805 ms 139 ms 95 ms 65.75.69.236 18 257 ms 112 ms 97 ms 24.244.140.3When the problem was happening, the tracert wouldn't get past 24.244.158.13
  2. I finally got back on just long enough to start a $20 SNG before it died again.Confidence is not high. As a network engineer, I have zero sympathy for network outages. High availability should be job ONE, especially when you're dealing with people's money.Love the games. Love the players. Really dig the customer service contacts. Not loving the network design. If it's this vulnerable, someone isn't doing their job right.Looks like there's a routing problem within cablebahamas.net where they should be routing into the subnet for maxil communications.
  3. You're welcome. And yes, after a few days I would recommend everyone remove the line and see if DNS is working properly again. Now, everyone get back in there and lose money to me in the tourneys tonight.
  4. The problem lies in the resolving of the name for the FCP poker room to an IP address. The name that is being queried is: lobby.taigro.comThe IP address is 24.244.140.36Find your hosts file (c:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\hosts) and open it with notepad.Add this to the end of the file:24.244.140.36 lobby.taigro.comSave the file. Now FCP will connect to the server correctly.Good luck.
  5. I've played at Ameristar and Harrah's. Mostly an Ameristar.Check out KCPOKER.ORG for more KC Poker Information.
  6. If you hadn't guessed from watching the commercials during that show, I'll spell it out:You aren't the target audience for that show.I'll give you some hints:It's on E!It has celebrities! They ran Tampax and Always ads! That's right folks, it's aimed at your wives... or, quite specifically, my wife. She watches all kinds of celebrity shows and tolerates my poker habit. She's actually a pretty good intuitive player and would kick my butt if she read some books. Anyway, the show isn't about poker per se, but about the celebrities telling stories. I like that there's no audience to play to, lik
  7. I'm not in love with the Unibomber character... I prefer the side of him I saw on E! Hollywood Hold'Em... he's actually a rather calm dude. However, if being in character makes him more comfortable in his own skin when playing poker, then that's what he should do.Two words to the Phil haters... Jennifer Tilly.
  8. First off, congratulations! I've managed to crack the money on the big 2000 person tournaments on Pokerstars, but can't seem to get to the end. I know that I've gotta be playing too tight, but if I loosen up, I end up going out around 600th place. What usually happens is I get to that level and someone with a giant chipstack runs me over. I've heard to play tight in the early going, but that just seems to get me to the middle of the tournament with a less than stellar stack.Suggestions?
  9. My son, who's 8, started playing hold 'em a few months ago. He's watched me play quite a bit and has also watched poker on TV. While he doesn't always exhibit the best judgement, he regularly wins free money sit-n-go tourneys online. He's under supervision when he's playing and doesn't participate in the chat, other than the occasional acronym banter (NH, GL, ETC). The main things I want him to learn right now are the "what beats what" and "what your opponent could or probably does have" parts of the game.

  12. In case you've never read it, here is Pokerstars' explanation of how their shuffle algorithm works. Working in the IT security industry, I take the certifications by Cigital and BMM seriously.Rich_______________________SHUFFLE "Anyone who considers arithmetic methods of producing random digits is, of course, in a state of sin." - John von Neumann, 1951 We understand that a use of a fair and unpredictable shuffle algorithm is critical to our software. To ensure this and avoid major problems described in [2], we are using two independent sources of truly random data: user input, including summa
  13. What do you guys think about this S&G strategy, which I got from Chris Moneymaker's site? I've been testing it in S&G's on Pokerstars for a few weeks and I'm liking my results. ____________1. Early in the tournament, don't gamble. Only play aces, kings, queens and AK in the first 3-4 blind levels. When you get AA, KK, or QQ, try to get all-in before the flop. If you get AK and don't pair on the flop, ditch.2. You can call with a lower pocket pair if what it costs you to call is less than about 1/15th of your chips. If you don't flop a set or an overpair, ditch. If you get the se
  14. www.highrollermovie.comLast night, I watched the premiere of the new movie High Roller - The Stu Ungar Story on Stars. It follows the life of Stu Ungar from his childhood in the 60's until his death in 1998. While Michael Imperioli (The Sopranos) looks absolutely nothing like Ungar, I think they got the story straight and I like how they told it. As someone new to the poker world, I knew little about Ungar other than that he won the WSOP twice in the early 80's, then lost it all to drug and gambling addiction, then came back in 1997 to win it again, then died. This movie starts to fill in
  15. Probably the worst "comment / card flip" I ever experienced was right before the election last Fall. I had turned over an ace-high flush. The other player in the hand says "I'm <his screenname> and I approved this message". Then he turns over his boat.
