  1. The post on a catastropic policy along with a HSA was pretty good advice if you can afford a high deductible.I am retired, but not old enough for Medicare and have a wife and 2 school-age children. I went shopping for this type of policy. In order to open a HSA, you must have a high-deductible policy that is "HSA-qualified". The maximum you can contribute tax-free to your HSA per year is the amount of the deductible, and the maximum deductible that can qualify is about $11K.So I pay $300/month for the 4 of us and contribute the $11K to the HSA, from which I pay the premiums, plus any health
  2. Given that villain is short-stacked and likely to to want to get it in on any flop, you probably can just call his raise here and evaluate the flop. If he were deeper stacked then I'd agree that pushing is the way to go.
  3. Actually the Earth can get along quite well without us.If we all drove electric cars, then the amount of additional electric power needed to charge them all woulkd necessitate an enormous increase in generation capacity. Unless we jump onto nuclear power in a big way, then that option is unrealistic. of course the same "environmentalists" who decry greenhouse gas emissions are against nuclear power as well (well, maybe a different set of greens). I personally believe that we will eventually develop a hydrogen-based transport system before the predicted disaster occurs. Even the oil compani
  4. I agree with calling preflop OOP. On the flop, your bet may well work out, and if either opp. pots it back at you I think you can fold. However, I would probably check the flop and either fold or call depending on my reads.
  5. The math uses only the 45 unknown cards. Adjusting your percentages based on other players' actions is incorrect theoretically. In any case, non-wheel low cards 6-8 are just as valuable in this case as A-5.In this case you have A234 with a 7 on the board. This is less attractive than A235 with a 4 on the board, as you cannot make a low straight.
  6. I once did the math. With A234 and one non-matching low on the board you are 26% to make a low )in this case the nut low).
  7. Given that a half-pot bet puts villain all-in, is it better to bet half his stack instead (he has $10 left)?

  9. On the given hand I actually underplayed it and lost a little. The flop was checked around. A 6 came on the turn and I bet half the pot, with one caller. I checked the river, and called a small bet, to be shown 66. A bet on the flop would have folded everyone.
  10. I'm wondering why you checked the river. You're going to call down a bet for your last $20, so why not put it in in case the all-in player filled up?
  11. Without knowing stack sizes it's pretty hard to make a rational response. With 2 players still to act behind you calling is riskier than if it were HU. Myself I would fold here, as I have nothing, and even if a low card comes it may not be good for half.
  12. PLO8: This situation continues to bite me.I'm in BB with AK95 unsuited, and 4 players limp. Flop is AA10 unsuited. SB checks. What is the correct play?I'm leaning towards potting, and if I get a caller and don't fill on the turn, check/folding. The alternate of checking the flop and betting the turn after missing seems to be a continually losing play (although small amounts). The advantage of betting the flop includes getting any backdoor low draws out.
  13. Original post says PL, but seems from the betting that this is a NL hand.
  14. I don't see many like this.Seems as if raising frequently in LP would be +EV
